Some lady backed into my driver side rear bumper today. Not any physical damage to the frame that I can tell, but the bumper has some loss of paint and a few scrapes. Total damage about the area of frisbee. Minor boo boo, but it sucks. Does anyone know what it could cost? The electric silver paint I hear is expensive and environmentally friendly? My deductible is $500 so I'm going to take it to the body shop to get an estimate then see what my insurance is going to do. If it's less than $500 I will call the lady - who lives in a million dollar house - to just cut me a check for either my deductible or the cost. I would rather settle without the insurance companies, if possible even though it wasn't my fault.

Bingo, I had a similar incident a few months ago. Lady in a Lexus RX nudged the rear bumper while I was stopped in heavy slow moving traffic. She let up on the brake pedal a little. I was going to get it repainted but decided not to as electric silver is a pain to get right. There are two small dents in the upper bumper edge where her front plate screws left there mark.

They will have to repaint the entire bumper to get it to match. If the bumper needs replacing then thats going to be at least $550 for the bumper alone. Make sure you choose a really good body shop.

So what exactly happened? You were sitting in your car and hear BANG! You get out, see the lady getting out of her car, walk up to her and say "Ma'am, how much is your house worth?"

I say head over to the body shop, get an estimate, and fax the estimate to the lady and ask her if she would like to pay for it out of pocket instead of going through insurance.

Is your bumper just scratched up or did it get dented? Because I have gold metallic paint, and have a few cuts on my front bumper and the front lip thing (cuts being that the plastic was sliced out revealing the black plastic), and to get that repaired would cost like upwards of $800 (they said they would need to get a new bumper and lip, and repaint them). But if its just a paint job, it can't be more than $500.

But down south, depending on the lady's age, this is how most people deal with this issue:

30 or younger: "Ay bay bay. You want to come over and ... work on my bumpah tomorrow? Hmm? I have a pole... I mean paint, in my garage."

30 to 60: "Ladyah! Gimme yo husband's fone numbah so I can tell him to *learn*

you a lesson in backin up! And I'ma sue you, yo momma, and yo momma's momma fo bustin up my bumpa! Watch me woman!"

60+: "Granny! You forget to take ya pills this mornin! Yo crinkly behind ain't even sposed to be on the road!"

From what I hear though, people up north are civilized? Must be nice up there.

$409 for the whole bumper to be redone. But I think there is rear panel damage, which can't be seen until the bumper is off so that will bring the total to around $1k. Still working with the lady that hit me to see if she wants to pay out of pocket or go through insurance. We shall see...

Update: It's all good now. We decided to go through insurance. Her insurance company took 100% fault (in a parking lot I must add, which is almost unheard of) and even paid my whole deductible. Total damage including deductible was $1300. Not bad.

Hey dude....Since its her fault, Just call her insurance company, file a claim, thell pay for all charges, including a rental.....no joke. Your insurance co. is 98% never involved. My brother backed into my 05 s60 T5 and caused around 2200 in damage, i didnt pay a cent. and had a rental for around 6 days. Dont pay for something you didnt do.
