Hey Everyone... I just got my car flashed so that the DRLs are off. I like the look. I drove home from the dealer and passed 4 other S40s with their lights on, and after every one I passed, I liked the look of mine more and more... Has anyone else done this? It doesn't affect any of the other functions that are related to the headlights, correct? (dimming of the radio screen and the dash lights, function of the fog lights, EXT)
Thanks for the help

I find it strange that such a reflash exist. After all, DRLs are for safety, and with Volvo being so safety oriented, I wouldn't think this was something they'd even offer.
It's illegal to not have DRLs up here, but I don't think I would opt for this reflash even if I could.

I almost had mine done yesterday at the dealer, but the bitc#y service woman wanted 1/2 hour labor plus cost of software...when I told her it takes 5 minutes to download it to the car her response, "yeah well I have to have my tech stand there while it downloads..." she didn't even deny that it takes 5 minutes.
Well, long story short, she was a total jerk to me about other things so I called the service manager later, who is a cool guy, and I think he'll do it for free next week when I go back for an upgrade on the tranny mount.

Re: (cicatrizdare)

Haha, nice cica... To each their own. I just don't want to have my Xenons on all day long. The bulbs are pretty pricey, and I love being in control of my car! If I want my headlights on, I'd turn them on myself!
What I do find strange about our cars though is that we have a light sensor to detect when the car should change the screen color from backlit green to black, but not for when the headlights should be on or off? My XC90 T6 AWD has factory Xenons too, and it has separate running lights. The lights switch from DRLs to the headlights when it gets dark enough (like most cars do now), so why not our S40s? I just don't get it! It's like we have all the necessary parts already installed, but there's just no wire connecting them all...

Yup, I got the flash right when I got the car. I added HID's and I didn't want the lights to be flashing on and off everytime the ignition went from II to III. I asked if they could change the DRL to the parking lights and foglights. I think that would be sweet to have those on for DRL's.

Re: (S40Racer)

I know that in my S80, the daylight sensor is used for screen backlighting also, but it also disables the ABL feature during the daylight, and only activates it at night. However, the xenons are on 24/7.
My dealership wanted to charge for the upload, so I said forget it!

I love that look, but know the first time I was in a hurry I would leave them on and the battery would be dead. I really need to remember to put a 10mm wrench in my car. The EST strut brace say NO WAY to trying to jump my car...

Re: (Vash13)

Sure... I don't have my camera with me, but I'll do it when I get home from work tonight. It's practically raining outside, and I'm serving the patio tonight, so it shouldn't be a long shift...

I want mine disabled so badly. My dealer wants $100 for it though.

Re: (Revolve40)

That's why you make friends with your service tech I waited out front and asked him to do it when he got back from the test drive. It's ridiculous enough that I had to pay over 200 bucks just to make the subwoofer that I ALREADY PAID OVER 800 for work. I amotize that cost across the two... makes me feel better about everything.

All the info needed to remove your DRL's are in this thread including part number and what each function does... and yes it takes 5 minutes to do the SW, just gotta have a cool service writer to cut you a break on labor.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=117580

However, it blew one of my HID's ballast, probably due to the voltage spike during ignition, so I stopped doing that. Never had a problem with dead battery.
