Howdy -
Just because I'm bored, and my daugter is asleep, I thought I'd let you know what I've found in my mail box lately.
In the past month I've received two packages from VCNA (Western Region). Both were unannounced, and were surprises to me. The first one especially -
From the first big box (about a month ago), I pulled out a white polo shirt with a V70 embroidered on the breast in grey (and "Volvo" on the left sleeve). Then, under the shirt, was a mini Leatherman multi-tool with "Volvo" engraved on it. No note, nor any clue why it was sent to me. Nice quality stuff...just don't know why I deserved it. Maybe it was my scathing response to the dealer satisfaction survey?
Then just the other day, I get a note from the postman that I have a registered letter from Volvo waiting for me at the Post Office. I trudge on down there thinking some nice stainless steel mugs were on the way, and to my surprise, I find a replacement lug wrench in the package. This is meant to replace the usless, stupid little "bent tube" wrench-like adapter that screws onto the end of the tow eye. The second day I owned the car, I insisted that it be replaced, and was told it was supposed to be replaced during pre-delivery inspection, since they already had a wrench replacement program in place. Anyway, now I have two of the "new" wrenches. Are they sending this to everybody?
Anyway, I thought maybe somebody would be interested in the mysterious ways of VCNA.
- Darell

Darell,
You must be special. I didn't receive a polo shirt or leatherman multi-tool. Boo Hoo
I did however, receive a cool new lug wrench last week. I thought I told you, but apparently I forgot to. I also just received Volvo OEM Load Bars from Brentwood Volvo, but I was expecting those. You were right, they are nice!
Bruce

[This message has been edited by Bruce Stanton (edited 04-26-2001).]

* 2001 Mini Leatherman multi-tool with "Volvo" engraving Recall *
Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting the 2001 Mini Leatherman multi-tool with "Volvo" engraving. The affected Leathermans have a bolted joint that may have been incorrectly tightened. In the event of use, the multi-tools may become separated from the handle causing pieces to become airborne and increasing the risk of injury and/or death.
The affected Leathermans were sent to Volvo owners who have recently filed scathing responses to the dealer satisfaction survey.
Dealers will inspect the bolts and tighten to the correct torque if necessary for a very large fee.
Owners who have received these defective Leathermans can also send them to either Rob or Bruce or Prepo for disposal.

PS-
I recieived my new Volvo Socket Wrench Part #9133668 on Monday. I think you have accepted a bribe - how can you possibly wear the shirt, play with your tool, and complain about Volvo again!!!! I'm just jealous.

OK, I took some pictures of myself wearing my official Volvo uniform at the Northern CA club meeting today. The cap was from test driving a V70 in 1998, the shirt is from my latest package from VCNA. The logo on the shirt didn't come out very well, so I enhanced it below. Turns out this stuff was supposed to be sent to dealerships for the salesmen. How I ended up with it, I'll never know.

- Darell
[This message has been edited by darell (edited 04-30-2001).]
