Finally got my package from John at BV. OEM boot + base.
Next step is to replace the shift knob with a nice, smaller leather one....preferably something similar to the one you get on an audi s4.

Now, I really like the way the shifter feels now. ...I dont know, but the shifts are more crisper now...the shifter just feels right - that's the best way to describe it. I absolutely hated the look and feel of the spaceball.

Sorry for crappy blackberry photos...i got excited about installing it that I couldnt wait until the sun is out. Notice that the boot does not sit all the way up on the knob....the shaft is too think for the opening....it'll be solved with a diffrent shift knob

Could you please suggest some shift knobs for me? ...I'm looking for something round-ish and wrapped in leather.

I didn't know that the R came with a cigarette lighter

you woudl want to look for a NA Part Numbers that came manual .... though not sure if those even exist past 05 ?

05 and newer T5's (and R's) have a 6 speed w/spaceball
but the console opening may be the same as an 01-04, (don't know but I would guess it is)

Looks good though. Was the install pretty straight forward? And most of the shift knobs like momo ones sit lower on the shaft so the gap between the leather might go away.

It feels more like an R with the leather boot.
The spaceball looks too uch out of place.

I meane I could raise the boot higher, but that would mean making the hole wider, which I didnt want to do. I'll wait until I decide on a new shift knob.

So come on, any ideas on cool knobs?

Now, about the improved fee...the gears jump in like butter now...I know that technically this should not be related, since the spaceball design allows for free movement, but still...I really like the improved feel of the shifter

I like the Sparco. I am just a fan of MOMO. Very easy to install it came with a bunch of inserts to get it to stick to the shaft then just tighten down the screws. Approx 2 min install
