Well after all the problems I have been listing here... I finally bit the bullet and got volvo to buy back my car
car was 15400 when I got it (about 18000 on finance).
I paid about 3 months worth so lost 292*3
Had to pay 1000 on the new car so lost that in some ways
the S60 I bought is a 10 month old sep 2005 car, its done a bit more than average at 17000 miles... but thats fine.
got it for 16500, finance monthly payment went up
I have written a very strong letter to volvo uk and sytner regarding the loss of money as stated above along with the fuel I had to pay for the loan cars and wipers/brakes within months of owning the s40. I hope to get some of this back otherwise I'll have a hard time paying for the s60 being a student!
Only downside is 5 days after picking the s60 up, the brake assist service required message came up, and still does every morning
could well be my last volvo although I intend to keep the s60 up to around 80k miles I would think.
On another note, I saw the new s80 at the london car show on sat. its a beauty so lets see what happens!
I'll still be on this forum as the s60 forum is really dead and lots of the issues are similar throughout the S series.
Also, I have many pictures of the S40 so if anyone needs any to enquire about (engine bays, buttons, consoles) do let me know.
Thats it from me...

Looks like I caught you on a bad day BPWRIGHTWV
To answer your ... answers:-
I have a set pattern, I fill up once a week on a Sunday. Thats it.
I should not expect to put in EXTRA fuel in the loan cars, and then expect my fuel in my own car to be burnt too. To me, I have filled up twice and that IS a loss.

I bought a used car yes. I dont know about where you come from but here in the UK, Volvo have a policy of having a 60% or over condition of brakes, tyres, wipers, and basically everything else. This is part of their 81-point check. The brakes were gone within months, the wipers within the first week, the tires within months. So you have no ground there either.

Lastly, Cost. I bought an S40 KNOWING I could afford it.
After two S40's and both with problems, I went for an S60. The S60s in the price range I could afford, volvo sales managers would not send out. I could not go to them a buy the car either because of the finance policy I was in.
So, the only way around was to buy a car that was as good as new but with the price. I had no choice, it was that, or another S40... and another hundred threads of issues.
Feel free to correct me but after months of issues, hours of arguments, and one long letter to Volvo UK, I have thought about everything carefully and looked at the What Ifs already.

Also to emphasise on a few things.. I am not a volvo hater. I infact have based my decision on Volvo after my accident last year and wanting safety.
I have also had an older shape S40 before, in the family we've had several older Volvos too.
This S40 was just cursed from day one... and despite the issues all happening within the first month, I was not at all happy with the service.
We have a policy here with a 30-day exchange policy. I was not given this option despite the issues in the 30 days because it of Volvo giving me loan cars every 2 weeks.
If you calculate it going in, waiting 2 weeks first to get a loan car... then it being in there for 3 days at a time, then 3 timse of it going in has already been more than a month.
anyway I wont keep going on about this... whats done is done, I DO expect something back and we'll leave it at that.
