Just wanted to bid adieu to everyone - I have been a member for 2 years, but I am leaving. The T5 yielded to the R, and the R is going to be sold either to another SwedeSpeeder (Please check the classifieds if interested) or to a local acquaintance in the next 5 days.
While I tried to justify that the R is leaving to finance another projects, the reality is that the service department at my local Volvo is SOOOO bad, I would rather drive something else. I know, I know, you think I might be acting irrational, but if you only knew all the trouble I have had with them. This issue is compounded by the fact that 04's aren't the most reliable wheels on the road.
So, later, and for the record, JRL is not so bad after all.

I wish you best of luck with your next service dept. Drop back in from time to time. BTW, have you decided on the next car yet?

Sorry to see you leave the fold. It sounds like you are not leaving of your own accord but were more driven away by repeated poor service experiences.
We each have had different levels of problems, but I don't think anyone can deny that it is a car that you are going to spend time at the dealer with. They can make or break your impressions.
I have not had any service experience in NM, but I was not impressed with a potential sales experience in Santa Fe. No understanding of the R product at all.
Best of luck!

Why does everyone hate on JRL? He's a good guy.

Good Luck with your next vehicle. It is understandable if there is only one dealer in your area for miles around. I'd probably get a Toyota or a Honda...

Re: Goodbye Everyone (JRL)

Well, believe it or not - I am going back to a Pontiac. While I was not upset about the reliability of the R - I understand the quirks came with the territory, but when you have the car in once every couple months, you need to have at least average service. One of the Pontiac/GMC service departments is phenomenal. Sad, when a Volvo dealership is worse than a Pontiac dealership, but...
Anyhow, we were replacing my wife's car this fall anyway, so we bought her a G6. Tried to stay close with a Grand Prix GXP (the V-8), but all they had was white, and it is HER car. I actually got really lucky, as they had one that had been titled, and then the buyer backed out, so it was used with 18 miles! She got a "new" car, but I got to avoid the depreciation by getting used.
All in all, my payment dropped a little, but I avoided an R payment and the payment on a new car next fall. So, in the end, I am ahead
As to JRL, when I first got here, he was kind of gruff, but when I moved in to the R forum, I found out he is actually pretty clever, and he comes off a little gentler in here.
Oh, and as a side plug, if anyone is interested in an 04 s60r (40K Miles) with the Volvo 100k warranty, I am asking $25,000 - browse the classifieds - get in touch right away!

Buy Japanese if maintenance free is a priority. Always sad to see someone leave Volvo. But I understand, ain't no point in payin on a car that's in the shop more than your garage. Best of luck.

The main difference is that you should be spending less time near one with a Lexus or Acura. You still get "free" internet access in the waiting room and a cappucino machine, and you also get $120 oil changes. But at least you don't have to go there, since basic maintenance is pretty much foolproof. I better stop now before I talk myself out of an R (again) and into another Acura.

In defense of Albuquerque's service deparment, I've had good experience with them. However, I bought my car new for them.
It might just be that your car has some underlying issues from the pervious owner.
Was your car ever involved in an accident? Often times when a Volvo is involved in an accident electrical grounds get lossened or disconnected. If this is the case you will have major problems in identifying and fixing problems.
I had a 1999 C5 Corvette and it had too many electrical issues to even count. I was always having problems with that thing. Especially with peformance and "sophisicated" traction control. GM couldn't even figure it out.
Nonetheless it turned out to be loose grounds throughout the car. Apparently Bowling Green must have manufactured the car on a Monday.
Well after I fixed the grounds and loose connections, the car peformed 100%. A month later the car was totaled in an accident. I got rear ended by a nissan altima at 45MPH. I was at a dead stop. Fiberglass shattering is a terrible noise.

I just have a very different tune about the service dept. there.
[EDIT] I had put in the "straw that broke the camel's back" but, I am not going to have sour grapes, UNO can pm me if he wants the story.
Yes, I know Pontiac is an odd switch, but the three my wife and I have had over the years are almost as reliable as the R, but the service department at one of the local dealerships is the best I have dealt with anywhere.
