We sold our 2005 S60 the other day and are now debating buying another car or just dealing with what we have. We checked out the 06 s80 at the local dealer and got a price of $28500 for a new 06 w/ about $2000 in options. The Msrp was roughly $38,200.
Is this a decent deal? the sales guy BS'd me saying that the new s80 wasn't much different and wouldnt outshine the 06's by much at all. I don't really care either way, I just like getting a good deal.
My other thought is that the 2.5t might be a bit underpowered for a car of this size. My S60 had 60 more horsepower than this thing! Are 2003 T6's fairly reliable? The biggest problem is FINDING one on the used market.

Other than that, the price seems reasonable if that's what you want.

I'm sure he knows plenty about the product he's selling, they just want to move the old s80 out before the new ones come in and make them even harder to sell.

Re: (iibbmm)

I'm here in New Orleans, and the Volvo dealership has been advertising the 2006 S80 for a little over $31,000 - sticker is around $38k. Is that a good deal, or not so good deal. I don't want to wait until Feb or Mar 07 for a new car, and even then, I doubt that they would discount much on the new S80.
thanks in advance...

Re: (noladave)

It's going to tank in value, but if you plan to keep it a while go for it. It's a lot of car for $31,000

Re: Good pricing on a 2006 S80 (iibbmm)

iibbmm-
I just leased one of these myself, coming out of a 98 S70 T5, and I love the 5 cyl turbo. I don't think the S80 is underpowered but you won't be winning any drags in it. Back in 04 Volvo replaced the NA 6cyl with the 5cyl turbo because it was more powerful (not so much in the HP but more torque), and Volvo uses this engine (in some form or another) in every car they sell so it is pretty well proven and purty darn reliable. Granted it is not as fast as my T5 was but what I gave up in raw speed I gained in luxury and comfort ( btw the S80 is leaps ahead of the S70 in all areas, except maybe audio where I had the Dolby pro logic sc-900 in the S70-but the HU-650 is still pretty good). anyway just my 2 cents.

Re: Good pricing on a 2006 S80 (Ognar)

Ognar,
I actually purchased a 2002 S80 2.9 last weekend.
It's no powerhouse but the last thing I need is another 'fast' car to get me in trouble.
