I searched in SS data base but couldn't find any news on the new Powershift twin-clutch gearbox. Anyway it's nice to see sharing between Ford and Volvo - no intellectual property rights here to get in the way.
New Ford PowerShift transmission slick performerford Focus 4 - Ford's new PowerShift gearbox handful in cluttered twin-clutch marketplace. Re: Good News - Ford will share with Volvo the Powershift twin-clutch gearbox. (VolvoMax)

Ford has announced the US-market version of the Mk. 7 Ford Fiesta coming in 2010 will feature the "Powershift" transmission. Ford also announced the introduction of PowerShift transmission to North American market by 2010.
The Volvo version will be built in Koping, Sweden at Volvo's transmission plant. The powershift gearbox will be introduced on the second generation Volvo S60 and then on to the V50 and C30 models. The XC60 is expected to get this Powershift gearbox along with other new models to make more sporty cars.
So VolvoMax are you saying Volvo will have the Powershift twin-clutch gearbox at the same time as Ford?
Re: Good News - Ford will share with Volvo the Powershift twin-clutch gearbox. (VolvoMax)

From my reading the engine of choice will be the 2 litre turbo diesel. But this engine is not destined for the North American market as Volvo wants to mentally prepare the public for the future 1.6 Flexifuel in relation to the ReCharge Concept.
Having said that the "Powershift twin-clutch gearbox" will not be coming for some time lets say 2011 or 2012 - possibly. OR do you know which engine it would be compatible with?
A bit confusing to say the least.
Hope it's not smoke and mirrors.
However if you read in "News and Rumors" - Volvo finally brings a diesel to the US.
Here is a comment reply from "Shimon" on engines.
Ecoboost Ford units? Info from Skovde suggests Volvo is working on and going to launch a new engine family of their own design also to be built in Skovde. Two 4 cylinder petrols (1.6 and 2.0) and two diesels (1.6 and 2.0). D5, SI6 DI to compliment the range. Given current trends, a 3 or 4 cylinder 1 litre would also be a good move for smaller cars (other manufacturers are working on similar programmes. Ford's 1.6 Ecoboost, 2.0 Ecoboost etc presentation which also detailed Volvos SI6 DI and the Jaguar DI V8 also detailed a 3 cylinder 1 litre engine for the new Focus). So, Volvo prob needs a litre engine too.
The V8 DI would be really nice given its output being closer to a V10. But, unless Volvo is very much encouraged by its new owners to make the DI V8 for the S80, XC90 and larger Volvo coupe (C90) plus some other uses elsewhere within the group (ie new owners wanting a Lambo competitor with Volvo parts and a new brand), then I dont see it making it......

So it is safe to assume then that the "Powershift twin-clutch gearbox" will be in 2010 models?
There is the wet clutch and the dry clutch gearbox. Not to sure which is the better of the two and the advantages of either or.

If the Powershift is anything like the Getrag DSG in the VW, you'll love it. Shifts are quick (within milliseconds) and the engine stays in the optimum torque band. It's slick, very impressive.

The Powershift g/box was co-developed by Volvo, Getrag and Ford. Volvo’s Koping plant is now shared with Getrag and Volvo owns 40% of it. The Koping plant manufactures many things, among them rear axle parts. Volvo’s manual transmissions are built by Getrag in Germany. Ford cannot stop Volvo using the powershift just as they couldn’t stop Ford from using it – they both own intellectual property in the project! Volvo is currently developing/testing Powershift gearboxes for the larger engine and larger cars.
Would a logical way forward be lean burn petrols, small more efficient diesels (higher pressure injection and higher boost pressure), powershift gearbox and a plug in hybrid (motor in rear axle?)…….
Re: (Shimon)

Most immediate logical way forward is powershift and direct injection for the I6 engines (3.2 and 3.0), and whatever I5 replacements develop (I4s, new I5s?). You'd get better performance and at least a 10% fuel economy boost there.
Applying the recharge concept, with battery packs recharging from the brakes and the gas engine (when operating at higher speeds), would make sense to see soon in the smaller cars. A V30 with a 1.6 or 2.0 litre I4, powershift and recharge would make a good competitor to the Toyota Prius.
Beyond that I think we'll still have to wait and see what works.

I found it.
Go into R Forum and under search enter VCNA and it pops up. I'll admit it sure is nicely hidden. Maybe it should have a separate heading all on it's own.
Swedespeed Forums ** R Forum ** Ask VCNA thread
Like any other topic, it gets bumped down as it's not posted to.
For the record, the evolution was that we as a community were lucky enough to hear that if we asked certain questions we might get a response from a VCNA member. One of the R forum regulars posted a series of questions related to R Model specific problems and we have been VERY lucky to have such gracious responses from VCNA.
And the question of creating a separate forum has been raised. All the questions have been answered by one person, so I wouldn't be surprised if that overwhelmed him.

Re: Good News - Ford will share with Volvo the Powershift twin-clutch gearbox. (Needsdecaf)

So if I understand you correctly questions like this threads topic would be better directed to VCNA and in particular cdauerer then posting in GVD forum?
The hard part for me is distinguishing the difference.
When you mentioned the VCNA in the R forum - I couldn't find it. However I have since read the thread you pointed out - very informative indeed.
Seems a new VCNA heading along with description would work best OR SS could direct members to make contact with VCNA directly and not be associated.
There must be some liability or legal stipulation on the part of VCNA terms of reference that covers communication with the public. They might have to make a change if they set up a direct link with SS and put it to vote at their next quarterly meeting.
Maybe SS could present it to them this way - it's worth a go.
