We were playing with photoshop and came up with these. We've shared them with VW, and they like the Jetta. They think they might build it.
George

Golf R32

Jetta R32

Jetta R32 Station Wagon

So I take it that you like it, too...?
I really like the overall package..the wheels, tranny, bodykits, and other misc stuff. Not too sure how I like the engine, though..need to read up more info about it.
I hope they can bring this car to the States...maybe we'll have all the swedespeed memeber join the poll, too.

Well, the running rumor is Golf R32 for sure, Jetta R32 possibly. It's definitely a cool car, but I wish they'd at least build that motor with an alloy block. It's a bit front heavy.
I like the idea though of making the VW R models big displacement and keeping Audi turbocharged, but I'm not confident it'll stay on those lines. The next S4 will probably be an 8cylinder.
Still, it's a good start for VW. I'd rather have an APR Stage III 1.8T in that thing, but that's just me.

It looks really sweet, but first tell me how much a R32 Jetta might cost in the US, for example.
Because when you start getting into the $34k range, you start playing with the big-boys G35, 330i, A4, C-Class, S60, etc...
If I were to stick with the VAG camp, I would still be going after an A4 3.0 QMS, but if they can bring it here at $29k-$31k, it would be more appealing IMHO.
-Drew

Can't blame you for not liking this new big engine. It is a quite a lot of engine for a small car.
But hey...I wouldn't mind converting this one to turbocharged. Anything is possible, right?
So...$29K, eh? I think I wouldn't mind forking out that much for a car like this...even though I'm no die hard VW fan. I know what Drew meant by getting close to the big boys price range. But look at this way, when the Evo VII does come to the States or they come out the STi version Scooby here, they may very well be at this price range, too.
Economy is not getting any better, yet the car prices are not getting any cheaper either.
Yeah, cars like the S4, S60 R , M3 etc. will probably be $40-$50K. So these cars will have it wide open. Even the A4q 3.0 is $40K loaded, so there's room on this. Think of it this way, you could get a Jetta R32 or an A4 1.8T.
As for the 1.8T motor, APR Stage III puts it at roughly 280hp, wheras this is at 240. Plus you save some decent weight and get better weight bias. Maybe I'll just have to add AWD, Stage III and this body kit to my Golf.

If the Jetta R32 were to go into production, it would make no sense for Ford not to bring us the Mondeo ST220 and Focus RS. Subaru is almost admiting that the next gen Legacy will come here in B4 trim as well.
This segment of the market could be a potential hotspot, who know's. If the R32, EVO VIII, STi, B4, ST220, and RS all hit the $30k mark it would be a nightmare to pick one. It seems to me that if Volvo made an 'R' version of the next S40 it would be at the same price point as well.
-Drew

Sent the Jetta picture to VWAG...tell them to build it and sell them in North America! A mini M3 will be a hit among enthusiasts and make the rest of the Jetta lines looking good!

Actually, we sent the pic to VW product planning of the sedan and the wagon. They liked them, but the wagon is too slow a seller. Rumor is though, the pics found their way to some key people and maybe even up to Pieschetsrieder (sp?). I did the wagon. Our managing editor at Vortex did the sedan. They look cool as crap, so I hope they build the sedan.
