Hi Swedespeed,
I have a factory fitted Golde sunroof in one of my cars and it has remained stuck in the closed position (guess that is a bonus) since I acquired the vehicle. The workshop manuals say to remove and service the mechanisms/cables etc you need to wind the roof slightly open to unclip the trim on the front of the panel which is impossible when it is stuck closed.
I have checked what I can and tried irrigating accessible parts with lubricant, removed roof lining but can't access the key parts that should be moving. The crank works fine and is wound to the correct position when reinstalled. I don't want to force the crank as I know the gears can jump or worse, strip. Tried putting gentle down and back pressure on the roof panel from the top while someone applies gentle pressure via the crank. No good.
Drains are clear and were not blocked when I checked.
I have recently bought a genuine parts manual that has a better exploded view of the components but am still frustrated at not being able to fix it. I haven't tackled it for a while as it has defeated me and didn't want to damage anything.
Any brilliant suggestions gratefully accepted.
Cheers, James.

Re: Golde sunroof stuck (gdill2)

George,
I can see where this is going, heh, heh. I keep it in a shed so have not tested it myself. There is evidence of slight water damage around one corner of the head lining.
James.

Re: Golde sunroof stuck (gdill2)

Thanks for that. We had this type of sunroof fitted as an option to our iconic early Ford Falcon GT's as an option but there are not too many Golde's around. Seems you had some US cars fitted with these. I have tried to track info down via VW/Porsche too who had versions of them. Parts might be tricky if the cables or other bits are shot.
Thanks for your help.
I am wondering if the trouble saying is going to come into play with this Golde roof. I am happy to leave it alone until I sort out a few other items but it is one of those challenges you get with old cars.
Even though this 164 is currently a BW35 I can't stop grinning when I drive it with the old AM radio chatting away. Having driven new cars all the time for the past 15 years it is amazingly involving being tuned in and listening to everything this old car does when out for a cruise given you are not 100% sure if it will conk out at any time. I have missed these cars so much.
