Re: going to the dealerships 7 times in 1 year is crazy. (stevectsai)

Hey stevectsai....I know you don't want to hear this and you might say f' it, but you might want to go over to Zen and see if they can look at it. I think you know what I've been going thru with my return visit to the dealer that messed up my strut.... then visits to 3 different dealerships and a trip up to EVOLVE in Monrovia to get some solutions.
It took a trip to Zen to finally get it resolved.... well almost. I have to shell out 675 for the new strut and install... then take the dealer to small claims for the damage they caused... then it will be resolved. It will be a 8 month process and I can't wait.

I got you beat man I went to a dealer 11 times in 10 months of course that was mostly due to that dealer being completely incompitent. Once I took it to another dealer they fixed everything righ tthe first time.

Think again.
Lotus and Porsche use pretty much the same Brembos as the R and they can also have squealing problems and it isn't all about the brakes. A lot of it has to do with driver braking habits and maintenance. Dust build up, improper pad bedding/uneven pad deposition etc. can all contribute to squealing brakes.
Some things you could try:
- Get the front dampeners and updated pads installed if you haven't. There's a TNN, even the worst svc. dpt. can't ignore that.
- Spend a day at the track to remove uneven pad deposition.
- Remove the front pads and re-chamfer them yourself.
- Brake later and more firmly, they only squeal under light pedal pressure.
- Install better chamferred pads like Porterfields and bed them properly.
- Install better shims like SS or titanium.
- Cut a hole in the floor and use the Flintstone power braking method (wear heavy soled shoes - Fred's got massive callouses on his feet so he doesn't need shoes)
-or-
Buy the Yaris and be done with it.

Re: going to the dealerships 7 times in 1 year is crazy. (stevectsai)

I know how you feel. I went back 12 times in one year for my BMW when it was brand new.
Went to three different dealers and one indy shop in order to get one single problem resolved. It's very frustrating to spend all that money on a car that sits in the dealer's shop.
I still have it- runs a lot better now. The problem never got completely resolved, but I've learned to drive around it. Who knows, perhaps I've uncovered all the bugs in my BMW and I'll be fine. Perhaps not. Roll the dice. Still, driving a Toyota is not the answer.
And there is nothing Ford about the R. I'm sure you knew that.
I wish all I had were squeaky brakes- then I'd have an excuse to upgrade to Evolve performance brakes!
BTW- some BMW's suffer from this too and I heard there is something you spray on your pads or rotors to minimize the squeaking.
06 S60R GT
03 325ci
So logic would therefore dictate that the piss-poor attitude of your mechanics is not a reflection of Volvo, but rather that particular facility where they work.
So the saying "Where you buy is just as important as what you buy," really is applicable. As others have suggested, perhaps you should consider visiting another retailer.
Will doing so be inconvenient to you? Of course. But then again, dealing with the hassles of vehicle ownership is always inconvenient. How often do you sit around on a Saturday and say to yourself, "Man, I really wish my car needed it's 15K service now so that I can drive to the dealer to have it done!"?
Ultimately I think your problems are a result of using a retailer where exceptional service is not one of their forte's.

Go to Rusnak. A shop foreman will ride with you and if you can duplicate the problem they'll fix it. My brake squeal seems to have gone away. They gave me new brake pads under warranty too.

Hey Stevectsai
I didn't think of it last night, but I'm going over to Brembos North American Headquarters next month. So far I'm taking Cloaked with me, but I can get you on my guest list too if your intrested. They might be a better person to plug away at this problem. IM me and I can give you the info. It's on the 16th, which is on a Saturday.

Steve, you don't need to get a new Toyota, get one with about 200-300K miles, they are pretty cheap and STILL for the most part trouble free
Then you can leave the R at the dealers, that way you're sure to keep low miles on it. (That's a nice plus isn't it? )
Seriously, it's a Euro thing, BMW, Volvo, Audi, VW, and oh my god Citroen's and Alfa's!!
Wheeew!!
The last two make Volvo look like Lexus.

Actually brake squeal is probably the bottom of my list of issues. The reason I'm ticked is because I've had enough, and this brake issue and weeping of angle gear is about all I can handle.
