I bought a pair from a Volvo dealership through ebay. Damn, it sure looks like a great deal...BUT I have no experience with these tires. I have been using Michelin "Arctic Alpin" snows for the last 3 seasons, and have been quite happy with them. But they're toast, and it's time to replace them...
any comments on the Gislaveds?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT
They are pretty good in the snow and ice and slush. Not the best of the best but very good and very reliable. And..pretty economical! They can be slightly noisy at very high speeds but nothing bad. And they last longer than the Blizzaks.
Yannis

I have considerable millage on both the blizzaks and Gislaved. Gislaved was the provider of oem volvo snow tires for many years (from the 60s? until the late 90s), having had the endorsement of volvo for so long certainly conotes a degree of quality. I ran gislaved tires on my 245, which is a challenge of of a car in the snow, on weekly spiing excursions from RI to NH and VT for several years and was happy woththeir performance in very severe conditions. They do not handle as well as the blizzaks on the highway. If you drive in the snow often and/or drive locally they are great. I drove from RI to Colorado and back last year on 15" blizzaks on Virgos and they were confident highway handlers, however, I would have prefered the gislaved in the mountains. This was a good price you received.
