I have ordered the S60T (get late Feb.) was ordered with the Geartronic. Is it really fun to use and how well does it work, compared to shifting a manual. This will be a first for me. If it's that good wish my C70 had it.
I have driven the Geartronic transmission on the Volvo S80, V70 XC, and S60 T5. The Geartronic on the S80 has only 4-gears, but the V70 XC and S60 2.4T/T5 both have 5-gears. Using the Geartronic does not really compare well at all to a true manual transmission. It is a totally different experience.
With that said, I don't think I would ever buy an new automatic equipped car that did not have some kind of semi-manual mode. Once you get used to it, the Geartronic system is very fun and easy to use. Like all semi-manual automatics, there is a slight delay when you upshift or downshift, but it is barely noticeable. Most reviews that I have read seem to like Geartronic because it had very little delay. Geartronic is great for passing and using on twisty and hilly roads. It is a pretty good compromise between a true manual and true automatic transmission. Another good thing about the Geartronic transmission, is that it is adaptive and will learn your driving style in full automatic mode.
The other nice thing about the Volvo system is that it will let you shift from first gear. There are some that do not you start from first gear like the Acura SportShift. Another good thing about Geartronic is that it will automatically go back to 1st when you come to a stop, if you forget to do that yourself.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
