George, tell me it ain't so. I had to omit the sunroof because there wasn't enough headroom for me and I don't like the idea of another complicated mechanism above my head that could leak. Plus the weight of the mechanisms add to the overall weight of the vehicle and affect performance.
What is Volvo thinking?!? We omitted the sunroof in my wife's S80 for the same reason; plus we wanted to save the $$$.
If my S60 gets wrecked I'll never be able to order another one like it!! (I've got a T5 with the Geartronic and no sunroof. I swear it's got to be the ONLY one like it in the USA.) This is appalling, George. I don't have a backup plan. If Volvo keeps up this lunacy of standard sunroofs on all their cars I won't be able to buy another one again!
P.S., they dropped the Cypress Green (my color) in the T5 also. Why?!?!? The car is GORGEOUS!

Actually, it is a good balance, because YOU CAN'T GET A SUNROOF ON A S60/V70 2.4 STICK!!!. I think this is no. 86 and 87 on the Volvo has thier head up their asses list.

I thought I at least had the option to get the manual as a backup plan if my car gets wrecked like my previous one (totalled by a yutz in a pickup who slammed into me)
I didn't realize they required the sunroof with the automatic in the 2.4, like the T5.
I mentioned this to my wife last night, and her response was "I guess we won't buy another Volvo."
I guess not. Oh well, I'll be happy as long as someone doesn't smash into us. I got my fingers crossed.
I personally think that a car like Volvo, should come with as many standard items as possible. I especially hated the fact that a lot of the "safety" items like DSTC and STC were options. As for the Sunroof, since the majority like them, let them be standard, and then make it a special order option to omit them. But for gods sake, don't complain when they give you something for free..... I assure you Volvo wants to stay in the mid-upper range of cars, and has no plans to take on Honda and KIA anytime soon.

I'd get a concussion just hitting a pothole--there's a ridge line around the border of the sunroof that lowers the headliner right over the driver's head. It's a narrow lip that, when hit with your head, puts all the forces into a narrow ridge line into your head. It hurts.
I sat in a sunroof-equipped S60 and I didn't fit. Period. My head rubbed against this seam. Putting the seat back put me into an uncomfortable driving position.
Likewise with the Acura CL type S. Sunroof and leather is standard. Can't order the car without. Too bad, I didn't fit, I couldn't consider the car in my purchase options.
The trouble is that when you make things 'standard' the factory won't delete it if requested by the consumer.
I'm afraid if Volvo keeps this up they may lose me as a customer only because the car will be too uncomfortable to drive. Plus I keep a car for 10 years (if they don't get smashed by some creep in a pickup) and the seals on the sunroof degrade and eventually leak--so that represents one more maintenance/repair item that must be done on something I never wanted in the first place.
Also, my wife and I both have allergies, so letting in the ouside air and bypassing the IAQMS filter defeats the whole purpose of the pollen filter, so that's another reason why the sunroof would never be opened.
So at that point the sunroof, glass, & mechanism represents added weight to the car that degrades performance. To me it's a waste of money--note that when the sunroof was made 'standard' the 'base price' was increased comensurate with the price of the sunroof.
You, of course, may differ in your opinion, and I'm happy you can enjoy your car. I'm just lamenting the fact that from now on I won't be able to share your enthusiasm for this product line anymore.
[This message has been edited by T5 Dave (edited 10-17-2001).]
