Been driving my new to me 2017 T6 inscription for 5 months now and am still learning some of the XC90 quirks. Discovered some time ago that the dash mileage can be seen under the tach and average is designated as “TM”, which for me reads between 10.4-10.6 l per 100km(sorry but being in Canada we don’t do mpg anymore).....but yesterday I discovered the avg gas mileage in my sensus screen and it states 11.8l per 100km....wtf is wrong with this pic?
Been doing some more searching and reading here in mostly older posts that the computer mileage is not realistic compared to old school division of full tank gallons/litres and distance driven but having two different numbers from the engine computer??? I expected better from Volvo.
Looking for some help here....thx, pls help me out am now really confused.

They are basically two independant fuel average meters.
The one in sensus displaying your 11.8, can be reset under the driver performance app, in preferences. You can have it auto reset after every trip/vehicle off for more than 4 hours or hit the hard reset button here each time you fill up.
The other fuel average displayed on your dashboard of 10.6, can be reset by holding down the reset button at the end of your left stalk attached to your steering wheel (indicator stalk), for two seconds. If you only hold it down briefly it will only reset your trip distance on your dashboard.
HoLe this helps.

In my experience if you want lifetime MPG (or the equivalent) you need to go old school, period.

They allow you to track your efficiency performance over different distances and purposes. For example, I use the Driver Performance app in Sensus to track the lifetime fuel efficiency on our T8. It’s great since it also shows the last 1000 miles (I have it set to 100mi increments) of fuel efficiency and kWhr efficiency. The total number for me (the equivalent of your 11.8l/100km) is the average over 44,000+ mi at 48.4mpg. While I use the DIM’s TM average to track each tank fill up and as someone else stated the TA is the average over a 4hr period. It’s a more immediate although I sometimes scroll through the DIM menu to monitor the real-time fuel efficiency. Yes there’s a 4th option to see current/real time efficiency.

The car has 3 different fuel consumption meters. Depending on when you reset them independently they will have different readings of course.
In my experience the Volvo mpg is 99.99999% accurate, virtually matching exactly the results of calculating it manually. Your owners manual does a great job explaining the fuel mileage/trip computer functions if you need more clarity. Remember TM is “trip manual” that’s reset on your own, while TA is “trip automatic” and resets every time the car sits for more than 4 hours.

In my experience, over 7000 miles, the difference in efficiency displayed in the Dash and the Sensus performance app screen will converge, and show the same MPG. It starts out showing different numbers even if reset at same point. Which leads me to believe the 2 display might be using different algorithms.

Thanks all for the explanations, all I really want is total avg and maybe sometimes real time consumption which is all I ever got on my 5 series ....lol was happy with that for about 15 yrs

Simple - use the Driver Performance App in Sensus for your lifetime total average and in the DIM scroll down the menu settings for the real time consumption to be shown under the Tach/Power dial. If you're not sure how it's in the manual too.
