does anyone here know how the gas door is programmed? I notice it is locked at certain times and does not lock at other times. is it set to lock on a timer once you lock and leave your car? I'm concerned hearing people have had their gas sucked out of their tanks due to the high gas prices.<br>

Re: Gas door (blackTT55)

the gas door should lock when all of the doors are locked, and unlock when one or more of the doors are unlocked.

Huh? Maybe this wasn't the case on an '01, but my '04 fuel door locks only when I get above 10 mph. Per the manual, nothing else should lead to its locking.

The gas door does lock because I've seen it locked on my car plus the manaul says that it does. The question isn't wether the gas door locks or not, it's if it is on come kind of timer and I think John Sharisky's reply is right on the money. I think it's set on a 10 min. delay after you locked the car but I will test to confirm.<br>

If you have problems or concerns with someone putting sugar of junk into your fuel tank. It might be a good idea to move <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/eek.gif" BORDER="0"> .

Re: Gas door (wrodri54)

The gas cap can be programmed to lock immediately, or after about 10 minutes. There is an additional function to allow all the locks to be locked once the car is moving over 7 mph.<p>See this site for some of the options, but not all:<p><A HREF="http://acctest.semcon.se/en-GB/P2X/comfort/added-or-altered-car-functions/VCC-249393.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://acctest.semcon.se/en-GB...3.htm</A><p>Check out some recent posts, about the gas cap locking. This has caused much confusion, because it seems to be different on every car, but probably was done by default at the dealer, and the original owner didn't know it could be programmed differently.

In 2001 ONLY, the fuel door unlocks/locks with the doors (but with a delay as some have indicated) and there is no dash button.

Re: Gas door (Warpedcow)

What confusion...my S80's fuel door never seems to lock anymore. Why can't they just leave it manual, or have a key-hole like Toyota does? I remember hearing the clunk from the back when it locked as I drove away, but now it doens't. Oh well, not a big loss. Sugar doesn't do much anyway. Urban myth.

Re: Gas door (Majisto)

Same deal with the trunk release.. why the hell didn't they just put a trunk release button in the car. I'm have to use the remote to open the trunk at times. Weird...<br> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/zeroforum_graphics/screwy.gif" BORDER="0"> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif" BORDER="0">

Re: Gas door (blackTT55)

I think because of how everything ties into the security system. That's why using the key in the trunk makes the car go ballistic, which is very silly, but whatever. Most people don't keep these cars long enough to have to deal with higher-mileage car issues.
