Re: Gainesville Raceway road course test and tune - July 15th (Rangeball)

I'll probably be there for the afternoon session, unless I can get up early on Sat. - I can't decide whether to bring the R or the MINI Cooper - but either way it should be fun. My R is in the shop today for some crunching into 2nd gear, so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the post -

Not my idea of a fun day.
Adjust your TURBO car for drag racing in the middle of the Florida summer

Re: Gainesville Raceway road course test and tune - July 15th (JRL)

It's not drag racing - they have a road course for this event. At 1.6 miles it's definitely not Sebring, but its a cheap track day nonetheless, and longer than an autocross track. Here's the road course description.
http://www.gainesvilleraceway....id=69

See you Sat. man - I'll either be in a black V70R or a dark silver MINI 'vert, which might be an interesting lap time comparison to the R on that small track. Unless I can convince the wife to come up as well, then I'll bring both cars

Re: Gainesville Raceway road course test and tune - July 15th (Doc GTO)

Well a good time was had by all. It was hot and man do I mean hot. I will post some pictures up later.
Thanks to Stephen (Grendel) and Rick (rqc) for coming out and having fun and thanks to Dave (Doc GTO) for the info on the event. We should plan on going to Roebling or Sebring in the near future to have some real high speed fun.
-Will

Re: (phuz)

I had a great time as well. I didn't have to bring my R after all, as Will let me take his around the track for some laps
It was very cool to experience his R on a course (albeit a small one) as I got a real feel for the difference between my stock R, and his with springs, sway, 18" pegs. His car is quite direct, which is how I wish my car would behave - and his upgraded engine mount (forgot which one) was tigther than mine, giving a more direct feel to the driveline without sending undue vibration through the car. It was very well set up.
My MINI (which I swapped with Will while I drove his R) went quite well around the short road course - a bit better fit for that track, as it was so tight. There was a Lotus Elise that seemed to turn some of the best times.
I didn't get a single pic - I got some in car video from my MINI that I'll post when I get it uploaded.
Will, Rick and Dave - it was very cool to meet you guys and I'm sure I'll be seeing you guys at more track events - and I'm all for some bigger tracks too, so the R's can stretch their legs a bit. I can get my V to around 130 on the Ulmann Straight at Sebring, and I'm sure the modded cars could even do better than that - And I'd really like to see Doc's GTO out there

Re: (JimLill)

Thanks for the link Jim -
Was your time of 235.5 at the Glen in the R or your VW? I'd love to get up to that track.

The car should so <2:28 but I had about 2 hours of time total in it when I did the 2:35. I have an actual race there this weekend, so will see how I do.
