So went to walmart at midnight last night, halfway there, car goes into reduced performance mode and starts freaking out on me. Pulled over, turned it off, started up again, its fine, but a little sputtery, went to wal mart, and in the parking lot it stalled as I pulled into a space, I noticed the cooling fan was on full also...
Did some shopping, came back out about an hour later, and when I started her up again, the revs slowly climbed, 2000, 2400, 2800, 3200, and the dash said 'engine temp high - see manual' so I shut her down. Waited a few minutes, tried again, engine speed was fine, but the coolant temp slowly climbed past the middle mark and the message returned, so I shut her down again. Called roadside assistance hoping for some insight, they just sent a tow truck. The automated system calls and says, your tow truck is scheduled to arrive in 3 hours. '3 HOURS?!' What?!
So I said screw this, found a wrench, unhooked the battery, waited 5 minutes, hooked it up again, message was gone, car was fine, drove home, she kept acting like she wanted to stall, revs were dropping down to 200-300 intermittently when the car was taken out of gear. I'll take her in today I guess....wtf?!

Re: Fun night (sanatarium)

That sucks bro. Hope it all works out well, I have no suggestions on what would be the problem.

Re: Fun night (sanatarium)

it may be a totally different problem, but all of that stuff happened to me back in the day after I installed my Typhoon intake. I though I really messed up. The car was stalling and shooting off errors all over the place. I would restart and it would be fine temporarily.
After a lot of stressing a light bulb lit in my head and I checked the ECU. Sure enough, the connections were loose. it was connected, but not clipped in. I clipped the ECU in again and everything was dandy. I obviously didn't clip the connections in 100% doing the intake placement.

Re: Fun night (40 Rouge)

Hm. I messed with it again today, same thing, still all stally at idle and giving the engine temp nonsense. Put the stock airbox in (which involved reconnecting the ECU harness) and everything runs flawlessly. Idk. We'll see. Just sucks because car show season starts next weekend for me.

Re: Fun night (sanatarium)

This sounds a lot like what happened to me after having built a custom intake, except mine stalled and never started again... fried the ECM. A tow and $1800 later the car ran great! Anyway, maybe since you got the stock airbox back in your dealer won't stick you with any out of warranty costs. Good luck.

From the sound of the fix, you have a bad connection in the ECU harness. Get on that quick, it'll cost you if it fails in a less obvious way.
Tom.
