It might be my imagination, but having had a facelift V70 and now a 2002 S60 both of which have the trip computer that tells me how many miles to go before the tank is empty, it seems they both rather overestimate the amount of fuel left. I ran out when the V70 said 45 miles left and I reckon I was on fumes yesterday when I filled up the S60 to the brim but it said I had 50 miles to go. I've advised the guy who bought the V70 to ignore the message and just watch the fuel gauge and wait for the red spot before panicking. Anyone out there have similar problems or is it a common thing for the trip computer to lie through its teeth?
Hate to lower the tone, but Vauxhall/Opel have a flashing fuel pump icon that flashes faster as the fuel gets lower. You sure as hell know you're in trouble when that little fella starts flashing twice a second!

Re: Fuel Remaining to Empty Tank...Whatever (thevicar)

Best never to get your car below an 1/8 or 1/4 tank. You wind up dredging the accumulated crap off the bottom of the tank and clogging the fuel filter, or worse, the injectors. As far as I'm concerned 1/8 is empty. I've never seen the low fuel light on my car I'll even gladly pay a few extra pennies per gallon to fillup sooner rather than later. Fortunately my 01 T5 has the old 21 gallon tank

Remember though, it calculates the remaining fuel based on your past 12 miles of driving.

I am the same way, and not just with gas mileage. It drives my wife crazy, especially when I mow the lawn twice in separate directions. Is there any other way? Back to gas mileage, there is a good article in the August issue of C&D that expounds on ways to increase your mileage. The author validates my earlier claims that you can obtain very decent gas mileage (35-40mpg) in almost any mid-sized sedan these days if you follow a few fundamental laws of physics while driving. Have a look...

Just kidding! I purchased a hard copy at the news stand for reading on my throne, so I don't know what the actual link is. Lemme search real quick. By the by, I received an invoice from BSR this morning for my "order" but I can't read the damn thing since it's mostly in Swedish. Sheist!

Volvo says the fuel helps cool the pump (by design). So if you run it to the bone you risk burning out the pump. I wonder how much that costs to repair?
