This last winter I started experiencing a problem with my fuel tank.
At ¼ tank my fuel line would freeze….. but now it seems that at ¼ tank or less my fuel pump is beginning to spit our errors (even in the summer). My local dealership was unable to get any codes, so I started to…. Even after 2 separate tow-ins for the same issue…..
Surprised for those dealer-loving people among us????

I have the IPD stage 2 tune and it is spitting out
ECM-2900 Fuel pressure. Faulty signal
ECM0-290D Fuel Pressure. Signal too low

Volvo of Canada is denying any warranty issue as
“software that is in your car it is causing the fuel pump to work harder than normal and therefore it wore out pre-maturely”

WTF
If it was worn out, it should not work... To me it a mechanical issue if it only happens at a specific point in the tank... (i.e float).
Anyone have any ideas?

thanks,

Re: Fuel Pump Issue.... (pama)

Why would you bring a car with tune to a dealer in the first place. They can blame it on the tune and nothing will help you.

Re: Fuel Pump Issue.... (s140s)

They know me....and I have already been flagged by VOC
Sorry need more of an answer.

here's an update... which is still unacceptable
"
Dealer has been told that the computer is demanding more fuel due to all the extra pressure from the turbo charger, therefore the fuel pump has to maintain the pressure and it is more demanding on the pump, the sending unit is working properly as far as we can tell the pump is not pulling the fuel from the left side of the tank to the right.

Hope this helps,

"
$$$750+ for a new fuel pump???

FV-QR

sounds like the Fuel pressure regulator (FPR). Easy to change and costs about $300 for the part.

Maybe.
I have heard of the transfer pump going, but usually that just results in running out of gas early.

Her's another bit of info...
They say the gas was not being transferred properly from the LS to the RS of the tank.
It only happens when the tank gets to about 1/4-1/3 full.
Apparently it is sucking the gas dry from one side but not pumping it out from the other?
thus the symptom is running out of gas early...transfer pump?
Make sense or am I being scammed again from the dealer.....
Do you think my IPD Stage 2 would have anything to do with the pump wearing out prematurely or not being able to pump gas between the sides of the tank????

It is not the first I have heard of these symptoms on this board, and that's what the issue has been every time. Running out of gas early.
Do I think your IPD stage 2 would have caused this? Probably not. Do you have a shot in hell in convincing the dealer otherwise? No. Volvo's stance on aftermarket parts, especially tunes, is quite clear. And to get them to change their mind, you're pretty much going to have to go to court. And you will lose there.
