Re: Fuel Gauge warning (spikey)

Spikey.................<p>the "miles to empty" feature is a based in the ave fuel mileage as calcultaed by the computer since the last time it was reset! It is a guesstimate...not an accurate #....Furthermore it will not always "count you down" so to speak..ie: 25 miles/20miles/15miles/etc. I tell my customers at delivery......when it says... 40 miles or less to an empty tank....you are "out of gas now". Besides...you don't want to risk trying to get that last 1/2 gal out of the tank anyway...reason being?? If there are any sediments or contaminants in the fuel...that is where they will be...at the bottom of the fuel tank! SO.....................25 miles to an empty tank DOES NOT MEAN you actualy have that much gas left! Just out of curiosity????Where you on a hill when you ran out? if so.............that may have contributed!

Re: Fuel Gauge warning (universityvolvoOSD)

Don't ever run your fuel down low. You'll burn out your fuel pump like I did on the Contour. Of course, Ford also screwed me by switching to returnless and putting a stupid sock filter on the pump housing, but you still shouldn't trust the trip computer.
