I just finished watching a show on Frontline. It goes into the political side of SUVs, perhaps some engineering shortcomings and why they were allowed to continue (politcally). It is not kind to Ford, but it has good representation from both sides of the discussion.
It focuses heavily on the BroncoII and then the Explorer.
More importantly, having studied the safety factors in the XC90, such as the Rollover Stability hardware, Boron infused steel roof, sidecurtains for all occupants, softer hood for pedestrians, direct crash compatibility with passenger cars, etc. I have a newfound respect for the XC90 and the engineering behind it (as if I didn't have enough already).
Watch your local listings. It's a VERY interesting show....even if you don't normally watch PBS.
