I am hearing the whine of a bad front bearing on an 2011 XC70, T6, 107k miles. Sounds like the job is pretty complicated and requires a special Volvo bearing tool and would be too difficult for me to do.

I am not located near any Volvo dealers and am wondering how much this repair will cost?

Only 1 wheel bearing sounds bad. Should I replace both?

Thanks.

You can start by watching this video, to see what's involved in replacing a front wheel bearing:

If you still want to take it to a shop, I would ask around to repair shops specialized in tire, wheel, alignment and suspension work. Ask for a wheel bearing replacement labor estimate (you'll provide the part). If they recognize that this Volvo wheel bearing is a "press fit", then you'll know that they're probably qualified. Order your own part to make sure they don't stick you with a cheap aftermarket substitute.

There's no need to replace the other wheel bearing...it might last the life of the car.
