It's about time for me to replace the front suspension parts and I need some guidance from those who have done this job. I replaced the struts, bearings, and spring seats a couple of years ago and the suspension looked OK then but now I see some bushings that look to be wearing.

Questions:

1 - What all parts should be replaced? I'm thinking lower control arms w/bushings pre-installed and lower ball joints. I say with bushings installed due to reading that pressing the bushings takes some specialized fixture. I have a 20 ton shop press but no fixtures, so I was thinking of getting control arms with the bushings already installed. I also read the bolts are single-use so I suppose I would need those, too.

2 - Can anyone tell me what part numbers I would need for the front lower control arms? This parts list shows two different part numbers and I can't decipher what the differences are to know which one I would need.

3 - Ball joints. The ball joint parts list shows a ball joint kit that is cheaper than just the ball joint. Any ideas on that?

4 - Anything else I would need to replace while I'm in there?

5 - Any advice/suggestions/tips on doing this work?

Get the Lemforder balljoints. It's half the price--and Lemforder is the OE supplier. Same with LCAs. You need the aluminum LCAs 07 had steel IIRC.

Did you use your VIN number to find the parts?? or filled in the drop downs?? either way, the last 6 digits of the VIN is the chassis number. Look at the description, find your model and chassis number... see example below.

Also not SS had a thread this wekk or last about LCA and to poly or not to poly. the poly in forward bushing, OEM in the trailing on a Front LCA was "best" way to go. FCP has these. The web site your looking at is my favorite to get parts from BUT on a recent comparison, after shipping costs are factored in, FCP was +/- a few cents.

Control Arm, Right
PART NUMBER: 30635230
RECOMMENDED QTY: 1

right
V70 FC2 FOUR-C R CH -645617,
V70 FC1 Brake 16 CH -647151,
V70 FC2 Brake 16 CH -645617,
V70 FC1 Brake 15 CH -647148,
V70 FC2 Brake 15 CH -645617.

Volvo used a couple style LCA, some steel others aluminum, so you have to get the right one... they are not interchangeable... it's based on chassis number.

Ball joints same thing.
V70 FC2 FOUR-C R CH -645617, $59.67; for chassis numbers up to 645617
V70 FC2 FOUR-C R CH 645618, $62.20; for chassis numbers up to 645618 (and beyond. usually they would do "645618-" above)

Spring for the extra $$ for new bump stop, spring "rubbers", etc. the old stuff is tired and bridal.

Thanks. I neglected to say earlier the wheel bearings were recently replaced.

Where do I find Lemforder ball joints and LCAs? Are they in the link I posted or do I need to look elsewhere?

Yes, I used the VIN and got multiple part numbers for the LCAs. I didn't realize those numbers were the chassis numbers - thanks for that info. The last six digits on my VIN are 548278 so now I know which parts to look for.

OK, maybe it's obvious and I'm just not seeing it, but what is the difference between the two control arm listings - the one you posted above and this one below?
Other than CH-645617 vs. CH-645618 I don't see any difference. With mine being 548278 it's lower than both numbers listed, so how do I interpret the listing?
Same thing applies to the ball joint listing.

Lemforder LCAs and balljoints--FCPeuro.com Be aware you will also need the LCA bolts because the Lemforder ones don't come with them and they are torque to yield (use once)

"-645617" means chassis numbers of a lower numerical value than 645617, inclusive get LCA part number 30760587 <<----- this be yours

"645618-" means chassis numbers of a greater numerical value than 645618, inclusive get LCA part number (whatever the other number was/is)

As to what is the ACTUAL difference in the physical part?? don't know, but theoretically Volvo does, and they want your car to have 30760587 LCA on the right side :)

My confusion knows no limits today. With my chassis number 548278 being less than 645617, shouldn't I need part number 30635230?

I forgot to ask if anyone knows the part numbers for the necessary bolts or knows where to look them up. I didn't see them on the site with the LCAs and ball joints. I need to get my order together and I would like to order the bolts along with everything else.
