Hello everyone. First time poster. I recently moved to Iowa which requires a front license plate and got a "fix it" ticket the other day because I was driving without a front license plate. I purchased the manufacturer bracket (part # 30762264) but couldn't find the recommended screws to attach it to the front bumper. Would ordinary screws from a hardware store work? I was wondering what you all would recommend for attaching the front plate bracket to the bumper with. I would like to do as little "damage" to the front bumper as possible but don't want the plate flying off while cruising down I-80. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Front License Plate installation (YIP24)

I believe they have some special anchor type bolts that most people get from the dealer. I keep mine under the carpet and place it on the dash if need be So much cleaner without it....

Auto parts stores sell the kind of body hardware you need. Basically you drill a hole in the plastic of the bumper, then there is a plastic nut that expands after you put the screw in it, so it gets tighter as you tighten it.
That's what's used from the factory, and if you get a medium sized one it'll work just fine.
There are also a wide variety of brackets you can buy that will allow you to mount the plate to the bottom of the bumper instead of the cosmetic face. There is even a cool corvette plate holder that allows you to fold and tuck the plate under the bumper, only to be pulled out when driving, for legality.

that's cool, until you hit a bad dip in driving into a driveway/parking lot and scrape the front.. and say bye-bye to your license plate
i've had mine off for a good month.. kept it in the windshield for a few day in the beginning but i think as long as you don't do anything that might catch attention of popo's (speeding/dark tinting windows if your state doesn't allow it/talking on the phone while it's in your hand/expired inspection sticker/etc), you're okay. yesterday even, there was a police stop on one main street a town over and they were checking both directions of the street for talking on the phone while it's in your hand/expired inspection sticker and even with my front NJ plates missing, they didn't bother me at all and let me pass. :]
