Front brake rotors and pads question

I have 40K on a 2014 3.0 T6 AWD. Front rotors have scoring and need replacement soon. 1. Should I stay with Volvo parts or is there a better choice for price and performance? I don’t have any complaints about the braking. 2. If I order the OEM parts myself, any reason I shouldn’t take them to a local indy shop for installation? He is good but not a Volvo specialist.

You can get quality pads and rotors with no issue. I think OEM is semi-metallic. So it's your choice if you want to stay with that, or go to ceramic.

There's no reason a qualified Indy can't do it.

I had bad experience with aftermarket on my 2001 S40, buying OEM since than. I change my pads and rotors myself but there is nothing complicated in it so I guess any professional (i.e., doing it for money) mechanic couldn't do.
BTW, no VIDA is needed for rear brakes change, it is couple of more bolts to unscrew to detach brake motor and release parking brake. Here is a video describing the process. It is the same on XC60.

Vida is not required for the mechanical aspect of the process but the computer knows that something has been changed. I just changed the rear brakes about 2 months ago and then had a warning that wouldn’t go away. Indy service place had to put the rear brakes in “service” mode and reset. YMMV

It is rare for a non-Volvo indy to ever say that can't do the job. That's what I'm worried about: What can they do and what can't they do without VIDA? I've replaced brakes and rotors, but realistically it takes me all day with trial and errors. I prefer finding an indy shop that has done it 50+ times on the same model, but there isn't one in my city.

How come FCP Euro does not have a Brembo/Akebono kit for the front? That’s one reason I asked if there was a better option than Volvo OEM for the front brakes.

They used to, I'm not sure why they don't have it now. You could always call them and ask...

Worst case you could just buy the fronts piecemeal.

I used the powerstop kit for my Scion tC. The rotors lasted about 30k miles before warping pretty bad. I was known to haul ass in the mountains every once in a while but a tC is not a heavy car and the rotors are a large diameter relative to the weight so the occasional hard application shouldn't have annealed them. I would not recommend this kit to anyone, especially on a larger vehicle like an XC60.
