Went and got the pads changed on the R today. I thought my friend was gonna give me a discount, since I was just gonna use his lift and I was gonna change the pads. He was gonna just turn the rotors for me. He ended up helping me through the whole process, turning the rotors, and not charging me anything. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Finishing the right side.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/1.JPG" BORDER="0"> <br>My buddy turning the left rotor.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/2.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>Finishing the left side.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/3.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>Applied the Carbon Fiber R stickers from sweetgfx.com....Thanks, Bob! <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/4.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>Just putting back the last chrome cap.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/5.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>I also took this bad boy off while I had it on the lift.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/6.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>That's Better.<br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/7.JPG" BORDER="0"><br>Not all good luck, apparently my winglet broke and I have no idea where and when...... <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/frown.gif" BORDER="0"> <br><IMG SRC="http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/files/472/8.JPG" BORDER="0"> <p><br>But overall, a good day.<br>

It's frowned upon. Nice job "weaseling" a brake job out of it though. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Get it? see what I did there? the name...nevermind.

Cause when you turn rotors they become thinner even if just slightly, but this makes it less resistent to the heat that i produced while braking, which can leed to your discs warping.

Re: Free Brake Job! (crogers)

That's why there is a minimum thickness that you cannot go beyond. If you can safely turn a rotor and not exceed that, then there should be no problem. <p>Otherwise, if it were a safety issue where you couldn't turn the rotors, you wouldn't find a shop to do it at all. Now, maybe down the road the rotor MIGHT warp due to heat, but how much further is a point of debate. At the price these rotors go for, any additional mileage you can get out of them is a plus...It's the same principle use in deciding when to get new tires - some opt to get new treads at 4/32, others tend to wait until only 2/32 are left - it all really depends on your driving habits...
