I would like an official ruling from a moderator listed in Motorsport Forum they are Needsdecaf, Helmet Ranff and gdill2. If any of these gentlemen say that the Motorsport Forum is for racers only I will gladly cease and desist from posting.
I did state at the onset that I was a "fan" only. I found the topic interesting and confusing all at the same time - so I posted hoping that SS members could shed a light.
I would like to clarify that the $60m is a voluntary cap amount in order to curtail a "financial arms race" in F1.
Formula One in turmoil : Sport: Motorsport: FormulaOne19 Jun 2009 ... Personally, I don't really care what happens. F1 these days is a joke, Bernie is a bad joke, and Mosley is a sad joke. You can see much more good, close racing with lots of passing at most Regional race weekends these days than in F1, and the spectator ticket prices are a lot lower. The same goes for most of the semi-pro and second and third tier pro racing too, plus the tracks are more interesting and challenging than the boring Wilson designed or influenced cookie-cutter circuits that Bernie seems to favour. As for F1, I say a pox on all of them.

Re: Formula One in turmoil; as rebel teams poised to walk. (850arrrsaylikepirate)

Yeah, but where are they gonna run? At least if they come back to Canada the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal isn't all that bad even though there's not much in the way of elevation changes. In the US the only track I know of that meets FIA standards is Indianapolis, and like all speedway/super oval infield circuits, it's flat and boring. Of course, if the constructors' series will accept other tracks without too much up-grading required, then maybe we can see F1 type racing at the Glen, maybe Road Atlanta, and Laguna Seca (Mazda Raceway?). And if that happens in the 'States, maybe we can get them to come to Mosport or Le circuit Mt-Tremblant ... real road racing courses ... I'd love to see that.

Re: Re: (stev vanveit)

We'll know more after a crucial meeting at the WMSC summit on Wednesday. It's expected that a vote will take place that could oust Max Mosley (finally). Then, we'll know if FOTA will really walk or continue to talk. It's becoming clear that Max is truly the problem for FOTA.
If Max, then no FOTA in F1.
If un-Max then perhaps FOTA in F1 assuming an agreement can be reached soon.
One thing is for sure: if this is not resolved now and I mean within a few days, then FOTA will be teetering close to the event horizon and forced to make the decision.
By the way, I think this escapade is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sick and tired (as a fan) dealing with this BS year in and year out. It's like the worst soap opera imaginable.

Yep your right Max has fallen on his sword. Apparently he's now threatening litigation - good luck proving he wasn't autocratic?

Re: Re: (850arrrsaylikepirate)

I wonder if either side really know what they're doing. While not exactly the same situation, the war between Champcars and the IRL almost killed the senior open-wheeled series in North America, and this despite some really good crowds at most events, fairly good TV exposure, and much closer racing and more passing than in F1 at the time, at least for Champcars. If FOTA and the FIA don't fix things up pretty soon, and despite the Max and Bernie show some FOTA members need a good boot up the arse too, then what is supposed to be the senior open-wheeled series in the world could wind up being worse off than the Champcar/IRL mess.
