What started out as this...

ended up as this...

When I realized the badge was a sticker on a piece of alumium, I decided that I was going to paint the the Takspeed emblem on, but that got complicated and i kept messing up on it, so I decided to make it a Swedish flag.

What do you all think?

I like the idea but the lines don't look very precise. How did you paint it? Did you freehand it or tape it off?

No one will ever notice it if he puts it on the front of the car. It's a pretty small emblem. I like the Takspeed emblem though.

Where do you plan on putting it, next to the R?

Yeah, I did use tape, but the paint still bleeds in a bit. I might just get some better tape and re-painted to the Takspeed.

i like it because it is original. I say get some decent tape, paint it again, maybe even coat it with a clearcoat. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I just heard about some new tape called "Frog Tape". I saw it in this months Family Handyman magazine. It is supposed to be a lot better than the blue painters tape. Looks like Home Depot carries it. Maybe that will work better for you. You could also buy some line tape from your local hobby shop, its very similar to what body shops use when laying out pin stripes. I have some I could give you on Saturday if you like, I used to use it on model cars when I had time to build them

That looks terrible I'm sorry. Even if it's not noticeable from a distance, any self respecting enthusiast will approach your car to check it out in detail and then they'll notice how bad this looks.

You should get a vinyl sign shop to sell you 1" off a roll of yellow, bring that home and cut the logo perfectly with an x-acto... you'll have enough material to practice several times. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: (-Pascal)

hmm not sure if i'd put vinyl over that. just a personal opinion.

looks like your brushing the paint on? from the photos, it looks like a gouache (watercolor) finish, im sure thats not what it is, but thats what the result looks like.

i would sand that back down, and use spray paint. keeping can far from the the emblem and putting on layers slowly (this will help to keep the logo from being 'embossed'). masking with that tape should be fine as long as the coats are thin, and you peel off the tape when its fully dry. also don't forget to mask the edges, that will help to achieve that clean finish.
no need to clear after either.

This is what I have on mine. These are great, kind of like a rubber emblem. My Takspeed 's were peeling also.

That's ok Dan, there is probably something that I wouldn't like about your R.

and audi is god....

seriously though, I personally like what you have on your car, they look pretty slick in person, however I would like them a little better if they were the same exact size of the R's

Re: Former Takspeed Badge Emblem (KiotCloudkicker)

I used to paint them. It took quite awhile to work out a good system, but even then there was a lot of variability between units, and there were quite a few rejects. I was also having serious concerns for my family's health leaving all those multi-coat paint fumes around to get sucked into the air system.

The "sticker on a piece of aluminum" with backing tape and clear coat was brought in as a compromise. I realize some folks like the painted ones better, but we've also gotten a bunch of folks that like the reflective properties of the new decal and the increased precision and durability. The icing on the cake is that since these are easier and cheaper to produce, I was able to lower prices significantly. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I like the concept, but I think it would look better if they were the same height of the R. That's the only thing that I think looks kind of 'off'.

I like the originality though! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
