The company showed the GT40 concept at the North American nternational Auto Show in Detroit in
January.
Ford chairman and CEO Bill Ford Jr. has announced plans to build a two-seat supercar inspired by the historic racing machine to help celebrate the automaker's 100th anniversary in 2003. The concept revisited the low-slung, mid-engine GT40 endurance racer of the mid-1960s. Just over 100 original GT40s were built, winning the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969.
Although the concept bears the next number in the original's sequence, the concept GT40 shares no dimensions with the racecar, including the 40-inch height that gave the GT40 its designation. The concept is nearly four inches taller. The 5.4-liter supercharged V8, an off-the-shelf unit from Ford's Special Vehicle Team, is about the only component Ford has on hand. The engine produces over 500 hp and 500 lbs.-ft. of torque. The composite body sits on an aluminum space frame.
Inside, the concept's cockpit retains some of the racecar's cues such as the offset center-mounted speedometer. Ford says production capacity, vehicle specifications, performance numbers, pricing and the final name of the production vehicle will be revealed at a later date.

-Drew

Ummmm, then how much if my wife sells my soul against my will on ebay? That way I'm not wanting to sell it an therefore it retains its value? With all the dasterdly deeds I've committed, it's likely his already. lol!

This is great news, it will be a fantastic car. I hope Ford treats this as their flagship model, because they are lacking anything similar to Chevy's Corvette as a halo car.
My only gripe is the name: If it's 4 inches taller than the original, it should be known as the GT44!

My only gripe is that its blown, while the Vette and Viper get by with N/A cubic inches. There's still no replacement for displacement.
