LOS ANGELES, CA – Ford Motor Company will showcase the broadest range of environmental vehicles of any automaker at the Michelin Bibendum Challenge. Ford will also host a media lunch and press conference on October 26 at the Southern California AAA building in Los Angeles. John Wallace, executive director of Ford’s TH!NK Group, will make announcements regarding fuel cell, diesel and electric vehicles.<BR>Ford will participate in the Bibendum Challenge, an environmental vehicle competition and rally, with vehicles powered by everything from diesel to hydrogen, all of which offer low-emission benefits. <P>“This event is a great opportunity for us to display examples of our complete range of production and concept environmental vehicles,” says Wallace. “The products we will have at this event are examples of Ford’s commitment to work toward sustainable transportation.” <P>The competition begins in Los Angeles at noon on October 26 with the Ford press conference at the Southern California Auto Club building and continues October 27 at the California Speedway in Fontana. Vehicles will compete in various categories, including design, acceleration, handling, emissions and noise level. Ford products entered and demonstrated in the event include the full line of battery electric vehicles; TH!NK city, TH!NK neighbor, TH!NK bikes, Ranger EV and Ford's electric postal vehicle; a natural gas-powered Crown Victoria and F-Series pickup; a new diesel research vehicle; a hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle and a hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle. Media will have opportunities to drive vehicles and talk with Ford representatives throughout the day. <P>On October 28, vehicles will be driven from Fontana, California to Las Vegas, Nevada, demonstrating the long-range capabilities of environmentally responsible products. Media will again have an opportunity to ride or drive vehicles and talk with Ford engineers and executives at various stops along the route. Results of the competitions will be announced during a Michelin press conference at the SEMA Transformation Transportation Conference on October 29 in Las Vegas. <P>“Ford has the most complete line of environmental products for a variety of applications – police, taxis, shuttle vehicles, postal service vehicles, zoos, park patrols – our products are ideal for many situations,” said Wallace. “Michelin has developed an event that will not only allow us to show our products, but also to show their capabilities in real-world situations.” <P>SOURCE: Ford Motor Company
