STFU!!
The nav system in my Benz is AWFUL!! Not in the line of sight, not easily controlled, no steering wheel controls, etc... IT SUCKS!!!
But the Benz sure does has a nice tight turning radius, which has been a boon with my living in the city.

Re: For those of you who bitch about Volvo's nav systems..... (njb8199)

My S60's nav system has come in useful a bunch of times, although I kind of need a map update now (it was a 2004 system). However, comparing how crappy the interface on so many manufacturer's systems is (including some of the newer Volvo systems), as well as the awkward places the nav screens are often mounted, and the $1000 to $3000 cost many brands want for their factory installed navs, I'm probably just going to stick with $300 Garmin systems I can use in different cars from now on.

The factory nav system in my XC90 sits perfectly at eye level for me.

I like the nav systems on early to mid 2000s Volvos where the screen rises out of the top deck above the dash, near the windshield. The S60, V70, XC90 had it at a good eye level. I object to the NAV being placed down lower above the radio, like in the XC60, which is almost certainly what will happen with the next-gen S60 too (which would probably be the car I'd buy if I get another Volvo). The NAV needs to be where you can see it out the corner of your eye while watching the road, you don't want to look down to see it.

IN total agreement. I didn't even set out to find an XC with Navigation, but this example happened to be equipped with it. I use it all the time, the remote comes in handy for times when my co-pilot needs to search for a place, and the BIGGEST benefit to the XC's system is the ability to utilize it while under way.

The NAV system on the XC60 is positioned very well. I have actually sat in one, but never driven it. But I agree, the pop-out sat Nav on the 70/80 range is better positioned - right about where you would mount a portable device.
I think the rationale behind the dash integrated Nav systems is that they are becoming standard systems that are intended to be used most if not all the time

In an XC60, with no factory navi, one will eb able to order a Garmin and have it installed in the "cubby hole" rather than have an empty area. This will be starting in September.
