I had left my car (07 S60R) parked on the street and left on another car to pick up some stuff for work (too big to fit in my car). On the way back it started raining heavily, and apparently the pumps that are supposed to take water out from the streets were clogged so when I got back, my car was almost half way up the wheels in water... I opted to leave it and wait for the water to go down rather than turn it on and have water in the engine. Water kept rising and got to half way up the wheels.
Finally it stopped raining, water went down, I went to move the car (it was going to start raining again) and discovered water got in (about 2 inches on the floor). I dried as much as I could with a vacuum cleaner (that does water also) and turned it on to go home (safe place!). I got an error immediately about the active chassis system... drove home and there was nothing wrong with the way it drove. My friend told me he saw water come out of the exhaust pipe when I turned it on.
The next day I wanted to take it to the dealership to have it looked at, and it wouldn't turn on (took 2 tries). After it did, I got the same active chassis error and also anti skid and an engine error... got on the highway and the car wouldn't shift to 4th (automatic). I looked at the messages and I got a brake error... don't remember exactly what it said. Got off the highway, called a flatbed truck and had it taken there. When we put it on the flat bed truck water was still coming out because of the incline. The driver told me: "man... water damage... your car is totaled!"
I thought it was just the computer, and when I go to the dealership, they told me it was maybe just that, and they would need to rip the carpet to check for more damage and they would let me know.
So my question to you guys is: "based on these facts, do you think I can keep it?" Will I have more troubles later? What should I make sure the dealer does to avoid any further complications? Will the bottom rails of the seats rust?
Thanks for any input... I am really hoping it is ok. (my insurance would pay if it is totaled, and I got that extra insurance that would cover whatever difference from book value and price paid.)
Once again, Thanks!
