It's sad. From the pics, it looks like Renault jumped in front of Volvo while trying to pass another car.
Keep in mind that it's a Small Renault vs Volvo Jeep (so Renault vs Volvo is not a fair comparison)

Yes there is. Lots of people in that thread deny that weight offers an advantage in head on collisions, despite plenty of evidence from the NHTSA and IIHS to the contrary. Very sad situation, and some very mistaken forum members.

Agreed - the advantage is not only the weight. The technology and the safety features are also different. Volvo has the newest technology possible (auto break is just one of the features to start with) vs Renault is at least 4-5 years old and not the highest model range.

Car crash deaths are so commonplace it's easy to forget each remains a tragedy. I won't bad-mouth Renault, but Volvo's insistence on higher safety standards for the large car they were developing with Renault was one of the main reasons why they reversed their merger in the 1990s.
