Well, just had my first issue after approx 4K miles. Heard a odd whooshing from under the hood. Took it right to the volvo dealer and it was the "breather box." I assume this is the infamous PCV issue. Glad I bought the extended warranty when I bought the car.
Overall, still very happy with my Volvo. Also, seeing a similar used T5 AWD in the lot for 8K more than I paid definitely felt good.

Re: First Problem: PCV (callmedoc)

That would be covered even if you didn't have the extended warranty, but it would be nice to have that extra warranty protection. I'm out of warranty but am still getting reimbursed for that PCV problem since the recall was extended. Glad to hear you are enjoying the car besides this little issue.
Right there with you on feeling good about the price you paid. The T5 AWDs dropped in price with the current economical situation, but the price is still above what I paid before it became super tough for car dealers to sell inventory. 2.4 prices seem to have dropped quite a bit. I couldn't find one for less than 10k when I was car shopping but now I've seen a handful for $8k. Still glad I got my T5 though.

Re: First Problem: PCV (carreragt7)

Are all S40's covered under this "extended recall"? It seemed like the extended warranty I bought was going to cover the bill. All I wanted to hear was that I didnt have to pay anything, so I didnt really question it.
There were New 2.4's in the lot with 30K stickers. A new T5 AWD w/ Navi in the lot had a sticker of 40.2K. Definitely surprised me. Definitely a wise choice on your part to hold off for a T5 AWD Navi

If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for yours and what is its configuration? I bought used since it is my 1st car that is really my own and I wasn't paying the (IMO) ridiculous sticker price of the newer S40s. I paid $13,500 (before cross country shipping and my state registration and taxes) for mine and it had some goodies like the MS Design kit, Heico pedal set, etc with it not including having factory Nav, Premium sound, etc. It had an original sticker price of $42k. If I were dropping that much money on a car it would have to be the R or another brand sport car...
Also, I think most S40s are now covered by the extended warranty recall for the PCV part, it doesn't extend the warranty for other parts AFAIK.

Re: First Problem: PCV (carreragt7)

I've come to realize that mine pretty much has every option (didnt know much about these cars before I purchased it). Mine has Factory navi, bi-xenon's, premium audio, premium pkg., climate pkg, convenience pkg. and had 37K miles at time of purchase. Paid approx. 15.5K (but that's INCLUDING Tax, and 3 yr/36,000 mile additional warranty+ tax).

Good deal! Mine didn't have the bi-xenon and that's it. Looks like we got about the same price in the end, but I had more miles.
