I just came back from the showroom..
I am speachless.. Although I have lots of pictures of C70s. And Although I've been reading around and everyone is saying that it looks very nice, I was mind blown when I saw it.
The car maybe an S40 underneighth BUT the exterior is just different. The lines are taken from a different dimenssion. Paninfarina's work is very clear. Who says that they didn't do any thing but chop a top off an S40 is absolutely wrong. It might have the face of the S40 and dashboard looks similar (if not identical) but everything else is different. When you look at the car from every angle its a different fairy tale.
The way the 3 piece hardtop fold into the trunk is just amazing. Not slow either. Volvo managed to make TWO different cars put together. When you put the roof up the lines transfer from a cabrio to a coupe (paninfarina art).
I did not drive it since the car was sold (they won't get a test drive, only special orders.. so no demos).
Downsides, the price. It is 190k SR (51k USD) for the T5 fully loaded, except for heated seats, keyless go and NAV (which is around 1000 USD, not 3k as stated before, more than a fully loaded R lacking same options).. Plus I still stand by my word, that at this price range a more powerful engine should've been the choice. The S40T5 (with keyless go) is sold at just under 130k SR (34.5k USD) thats 16.5k USD difference which is alot. If this price was for a 260bhp version then it would be one hell of a bang for the buck car, but for a 220bhp it is abit too expensive.
One thing that got me worried is the plastic. There was alot of plastic around in the interior.. What do you guys think of that?
Thats said, the design itself deserve mroe than 50k USD and if you are not interested in power 50k USD is not over priced. BUT if you would like power, it might be abit overpriced.

Mainly in the door panel...
I want to go take another look at it today. The design is really one piece of engineering perfection.

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (ZAF)

Does the C70 have the option of keyless go (or whatever volvo calls it)?
Because the C70 I saw didnot have it and the saleman said that he is not sure if the C70 has such an option (the S40s they have in the showroom has keyless go).

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (T5_awd)

Will be taking another look at it today, hopefuly.
I've checked Volvocars.com and it seems that the option "keyless drive" is not available on the C70, while is available on the S40. Strange!! The C70 is must more expensive and is based on the S40 and lack such a nice option..

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (T5_awd)

Ok just came back from the showroom, hehehe the saleman is not 100% convinced that I am going to buy one he even threw a comment when I was returning the key to him (after playing with the top a bit) "we would like you to keep the key with you" ..
Anyway, the spots where I thought it should've been made from better quality material are:
1- around the gear knob, next to the roof buttons (too much plastic there.
2- The door handle, but then again thats in all Volvos, except maybe the S60R.
3- The steering-wheel was abit strange. What kind of material is that. It felt different, can say if cheap or not.. Would've liked something similar to the S60R.
4- The Centre of the steering wheel (where the airbag deploys) the plastic used there makes the car feels a bit cheap. Same case for the S40.
5- In the door panel, the top part, the material is not leather but its not plastic either. I think that it has to do with the car being a drop-top. This I am not saying its cheap, but strange and I am undecided on if its ok or a bit cheap.
My concern is that the car is 50k+ USD and for that price such small things (stated above) do make a difference.
As for the keyless drive, well the site is stating the 07 model year features:
This is for the C70:
http://www.volvocars.com/model...s.htm
Where no keyless drive can be found
This is for the S40:
http://www.volvocars.com/model...s.htm
Keyless drive can be found under security.
Yannis or others any info on this matter?

ZAF
In answer to your question, the option of keyless entry as well as Sirius Satellite Radio will be available on '07 C70's starting October 2006 production. In addition, aux. input into audio system for MP3 and other audio sources will be a standard feature in '07. This means MP3 playback capability from the in-dash CD Player.
'07 Volvo C70, Silver/black EDT Sept. '06

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (ZAF)

One point which can become a problem,
The plastic rear plate which sit's in sight when the roof is down can develop 2 weird looking spots from 2 rubber stops which are in the trunk. I saw one C which had developed real nasty spots.

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (VolvoMax)

volvolmax:

Sometimes the transmission of information/updates on new vehicles can be very confusing. According to internal Volvo sources and information released to dealers concerning the "New Volvo C70 Headstart" for model year 2007, version 2, released to dealers on May 16, 2006 the information I provided in my last post is accurate. Of course, Volvo has a "disclaimer" on the bottom of all info packets sent to dealers that goes like this..."Volvo Cars of North America reserves the right to make changes at any time, without notice, to colors, specs, accessories, materials and models."

Re: Finally saw the C70 in real life (VolvoMax)

Max:
Thanks for the update regarding the availability of sirius and keyless entry. My MY07 Volvo C70 will be an "early" production model with delivery expected in late September. It looks like I'll be enjoying my sat radio through an "fm modulator" rather than via dedicated input port.
Steve

Bob:
Ok..I'll bite..what is BRP??
You're right when you describe the beauty of W.NC. I'm fortunate to be here and appreciate the great weather and surroundings every day. Worry is not in my nature, especially when it concerns ordering new cars. I am concerned about the availability of options, such as sat. radio integrated into the C70's audio system, since I do not listen to regular broadcast AM/FM radio. I acquire info (re: new C70) from personal research, contacts in the field, and sometimes from patients I see in my office who are in upper level auto management or ownership who are gracious enough to share this information.
Steve

Re: (stevevc7)

I saw a ti. gray one the other day. Really nice looking car, stereotypical volvo drivers (55 yr old man and his similarly aged wife). Beautiful design.
