My friend has graciously offered to do the work for me. I dropped my car off at his house this a.m. and he gave me his 740 turbo wagon (stick ) to use to drive to work.
He called me and said he got the side markers in no problem, but the front passenger side end link is broken He then offered to drive (about 20 miles) to the dealership to pick up the part which they have in stock. Wow! Nice. I called in my credit card number and also had them also get me an arm for the front headlight wiper since the clip that holds the blade is broken. He's also going to install that.
I better buy him a bunch of beer for his help. I guess this is one of the perks of being the president of the hoosier chapter of VCOA people willing to help you out that really love volvos.

Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (soledoc)

Just saw this- should probably also replace the other end link at the same time if they haven't been replaced in a while- they tend to go pretty quickly.

The dealer replaced the other one last year...guess they didn't think the other one needed replacing.

Buy Slater's endlinks. You'll be much happier.
http://quickbrickmotorsports.com/prod_endlink.html
Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (Volvo Grrrr)

Now I find out...after the fact. My bad. Should have had these before I had my friend install them. The steering now seems to drift more to the right now. I'll use these end links for now but I'll go ahead and either buy the IPD end links or the Slater ones as recommended. Any major difference between the two.
Now I also find out today that my car is having trouble starting I assume it's either the battery or the starter. Trip to the dealer for that one. Any recommendations on battery brand?

Yes, lots of threads on this over on VS. Basically the IPD heavy duty ones are the same design and weaknesses as the Volvo ones. I realize the QBM ones are significantly more expensive but you should never have a problem with them again so it's worth it IMHO.

Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (soledoc)

What are the symptoms for the trouble starting? Is the motor not turning over or just not firing? Trouble starting could be caused by many things, from bad spark plugs to leaky fuel injectors, etc.
My '99 had difficulty starting in the morning- it would sputter and stumble for a few seconds before running cleanly. I think the issue was a leaky fuel injector that would leak fuel into one of the cylinders while sitting overnight. I did not keep the car long enough to ever figure out what the real problem was however.

Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (Wayne T5)

It's only done this yesterday so I don't have a lot of info. At first start yesterday morning it sputtered on the first turn and started on the second turn. Runs fine once started. Then I drove 1 mile to Starbucks and turned the car off and tried to start it again. Nothing. Then the second time it sputtered and finally started. It also did the sputtering thing again after my friend installed the sway bars. I made it home, but I'm nervous about keeping it too long without having it looked at. I'll take it to the dealer this weekend.
Will also have them look at the alignment which seems off now after the sway bars were installed.

Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (soledoc)

Soledoc,
That is interesting because I have the same problem on my 99 S70 GLT. Just about everytime I try to start on the first try it will never turn over. It always starts on the second try. I have had it into the indie shop that works on Volvo's and htey could not find an issue. I has not not started yet, but I am a little worried. If you find anything please let us know

Will do. Have you had the battery tested? I plan on having them look at it on Monday.

If the car cranks, it's not the battery

Re: Finally getting my sway bars and side markers (soledoc)

There are some known issues with the battery cable from the positive post going into the fuse block under the hood. You should start there with that one...
Cheers,
Prospero
