Filling Gas

I never owned a car that didn't have a gas cap before. The angle of the gas tank tube is also slightly angled in a weird. At least to me. Every time I'm pumping gas I'm worried that the gas nozzle handle might hit the part of the car under the filler neck. Has anyone had the gas nozzle handle touch the painted parts of the car before? I live in a state where we can pump our own gas. :)

No issues with the pump mechanism getting close to painted body panels. But I notice that in some gas station brands, the gas pump's vapor capture mechanism and the volvo's filler neck design seem to conspire to shut off the gas pump. In those stations, I find that holding the nozzle and keeping a constant pressure onto the volvo's filler neck was necessary to properly fill the tank. Somewhat inconvenient...

I really like the cap less filler on the Volvo. I believe that came from the Ford Days? Anyway I like the system as it fills the car's tank relatively fast and with little fuss. I had a 2015 highlander that required a big effort to actually fill the tank. The pump would shut off way early. I would have to keep on pumping and re-pumping perhaps 5 to 7 times and still not fill the tank. I have found that after the third attempt at putting in gas that anymore and it will overflow on the T8. So three times is the charm. California

Correct. We had the same filler (even looks the same) on our 2009 Ford Flex. No issues with it on the Flex and no issues on the XC90 so far at all.

No issues. I like it. But note that when it auto cuts off you can’t put much more gas in. Previous cars sometimes let me put another gallon in; no way with XC 90. Maybe a quick one or two short squeezes of the handle.

I just know what quantity of fuel I need when I refill based on the fuel gauge. If my tank was empty with the warning coming on, I know I should be able to fill in about 55L. And if gauge was at half a tank, I know I should have close to 30L.

So, I'm not too worried when it kicks out the first time so long as those expected quantities match

No issues with either the original capless system or the replacement filler neck the dealer installed a few months ago.
