Re: few questions on my '01 (Qbrozen)

They probably mean spring seat and yes, go with XC90 seats
There is the strut PLPATE but it's not visible until they're torn apart

Probably an IPD connector

Thanks, Jim.

Yeah, I thought it odd. They even wrote it on my receipt as "TECH NOTED RIGHT FRONT STRUT MOUNT CRACKED/BROKEN AND HAS EXCESSIVE PLAY."

My suspension has yet to make any noise. Plus, when I looked under the hood, it appears as if there is far more play in the left front spring seat.

That would be the sping seat. If you know what to look for you can see the cracking. You need to pry it up and look inside with a flashlight
It can last 6 months or 6 days, one big pothole and it usually breaks through!
(Same thing happened to me a month ago)
I was waiting until the Spring to replace the front struts on my S70. One day it was fine, the next day it started to make noise, the top of the strut was pushing through the mount, it happened that quickly.
I know they were cracked and I knew it was a matter of time.
Time beat me this instance!

Jim,
Is there any danger in that situation of the strut top hitting the hood?

Never seen it but that doesn't mean it can't happen
You will have plenty of warning if it breaks before you replace it.
Also recommended would be new front struts at this time, The labor is the same and yours are shot by now

The other way to test the spring seats is to turn the strut nut with a wrench. If it doesn't spring back, the rubber is broken and it's toast.

It won't poke your hood unless it's been clunking badly for a long time.

That's when it's totally gone but CRACKED, he has to pry up the corner and look at it inside
