Although it may be the car to leave even the fabled McLaren F1 trailing in its wake, development has been plagued with difficulties. In the most serious incident, a prototype was destroyed by fire as it was being driven at the firm's Italian test track.
Despite the fact that the car carried extinguishers, and a fire engine was on hand, flames reduced the carbon bodywork to ashes in less than an hour.
Work to get the supercar finished for its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September has continued flat-out. Customer deliveries of the Ferrari, which is expected to cost around £350,000, start in December. Tipped to be powered by a 6.0-litre 600bhp V12 engine, the newcomer should be able to sprint from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is set to exceed 220mph.
However, fans in Japan – a hugely important market– will get a sneak preview of the car this week. Designer Ken Okuyama, a Japanese stylist who also penned the 2000 Ferrari Rossa, is expected to reveal the new model in a Tokyo art gallery. Still referred to by its FX codename, rumours suggest that the car could be called F60, but the name Enzo – in tribute to Ferrari's founder – is another possibility.

Thanks to Yannis for this one. I think that this one looks much better than the FX, but I still don't think it will be able to top the Swedish built 242.3 mph Koenigsegg CC as fastest production car in the world, for bragging rights. We will see...
Koenigsegg CC

-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 04-24-2002).]

Now, that's more like it. I've seen this pic before, but not the other one. So, I was shocked that you guys said the other one was the final revision for production.
Now, while Javadoc sells his soul, you don't want to know what I'd be selling to get this car......

WOW! Let's see, maybe in 10 years it'll be worth less, and if I save for 10 years... nahh, it won't happen. Well, anyone know of a good life insurance policy
What beautiful cars...

Sorry, but I have to say that this one looks Lotus-ish to me up in the nose area..or maybe Aston Martin DB7-ish, neither of which are bad things, but this final version just doesn't "scream" Ferrari to me.
The only thing that makes it look like a Ferrarri IMHO is the color. Paint that puppy british racing green, and nobody'd ever guess it's true heritage!
Me, well...just like several of you have said, it's not like I'm rich enough to be in a position to buy this car, but I actually didn't think that first picture you posted in the other thread was all THAT awful.
Being a "closet" member of the Ferrari tifosi (b/c my employer is affiliated with a rival team!), the "look" on that first picture didn't strike me as being odd in any way. Just looked like a gussied-up F1 car.
Guess I've been brainwashed into thinking that snarky/ugly look is an inherently good thing! I do agree with all the kit car comments on that first thread, though! And lastly, well, this car *is* truly beautiful, even if it does look more British than Italian.
Miscellaneous wonderings... I wonder if you're one of those rich farts (who *can* pony up $700K) if you get perks with your purhcase, like F1 tix, meet-the-driver events, and so on. Guess I'll never know...
