While my XC90 is in for warranty work, I've been given a 2009 V50 T5 AWD R-Design with 1,400 miles as a loaner. Its one hell of a car. I have been enjoying it immensely. I had never driven a Volvo of this series before. You all have very nice cars.
With only 1,400 miles on the clock, it had dog hair, chips, dried soda, pen, and dried ice cream all over the two-tone interior, along with enough sand to fill a family of shoes. The exterior was not much better. So, being the Volvo-nut that I am, I washed, vacuumed, and scrubbed. The life of a loaner certainly is a tough one.
The black sapphire color is gorgeous in the light and the silver mirrors and load bars add a nice contrast. The fault I have with the car so far, are the ergonomics of the center stack. Perhaps I am just not familiar with them yet. Anyway, I'm sure there are some readers who clicked this thread for the pictures; so here they are.

This picture was taken at Kimball's Ice Cream in Carlisle, MA. I noticed that I dipped ice cream on the seats as well, so perhaps I was being unduly harsh on the fat slob I envisioned driving the car before me with his unruly chip-munching brood and mangy dog.

Black Sapphire is a good looking color and it is a good looking car. How do you like your XC90? I am probably going to get a used one in a couple years.

carreragt7: My XC90 is wonderful (3.2 AWD). It has plenty of low end torque and good highway passing power. Its a big car, but it handles well and does not have sloppy SUV driving dynamics.
Thanks chrisV50t: that car certainly didn't deserve to be so poorly kept. The rear wheels were almost black when I picked it up, and the fronts were not much better. I'm curious to see if the service department asks me if I cleaned the car when I drop it off tomorrow.

Re: (Cabot)

I did the same thing when I received a badly neglected C30 as a loaner car from my dealer. I actually received a $15 credit for all my hard work!! Hopefully they recognize the hard work we put into our cars and take care of you the same way. Enjoy the V50 while you can!

Wow, my dealership seems obsessive-compulsive in comparison. Everytime my car goes in it gets washed before I pick it up and the loaners I've had seem clean (appears they've been washed within the last two days). Good job on the cleanup.
Unrelated sidestory: I drive by this mansion everyday on the way to work and over the weekend he had 9 of his cars out (2 Rolls Royces, Bentley, H1 Hummer, SL500, Excursion, Aston Martin Vantage, and two I'm forgetting). Anyway, when I drove by I saw a bucket, sponge and a bottle of Dawn right beside one of the cars. This furthers my desire to found a car neglect program wherein nice cars are taken away from neglectful owners. They do it with kids, pets, etc, why not cars (don't they deserve love)?

Not sure if this guy knows that or not, so I'll take the Aston when your neglect program is up and running

Re: (Modorf)

Our dealer gives us Honda's as loaners and now they have a Subaru franchise so we'll be seeing some of those too. There is nothing like driving around town in a Honda Ody maxivan! Works great though for the office lunch run.

Re: Fantastic Loaner (Cabot)

Lucky you. I am dropping of my R for an expected $350-$400 service visit and will probably end up in a S40 2.4i.

Guy, I love Kimballs. From Lowell myself and we used to take frequent rides out to grab a few scoops. NICE

Thanks for all the replies. I'm happy to see that there are other like-minded car nuts around here who would wash a loaner. The R-Design steering wheel is really nice. I'm going to miss this car when I have to bring it back. Volvo did a good job on the styling. I've noticed many people on the sidewalk and in other cars staring at it.
S40Racer- what dealership do you use that gave you a credit?
Modorf: I use Boston Volvo on 75 North Beacon St, 02134. They are fantastic. I did not buy my XC90 from them, and yet I have received 1st class treatment.
MagoonR: that must be rather anticlimactic to go from 300HP to 168. I was expecting to get a base C30 or S40, not a new T5. I've had it for three days now and I love the turbo.
jay dub: Kimballs is great. I like the smaller one in Carlisle.

Re: (Cabot)

I wouldn't only wash a loaner if it was dirty, but if I drove by that mansion you spoke of and saw the Vantage just sitting there I would volunteer to clean it. Astons are my favorite cars of all time. DBS is amazing...

In the end, a loaner is meant to get me to where I need to go and is a courtesy. That said, this is far from a "premium" feeling vehicle.

Re: (Cabot)

I'm in LA... Power Volvo South Bay. I've been there so many times, I know all the techs and service advisers by name. Probably had something to do with the credit...

Thanks S40Racer: I'm a USC student and have used Volvo of LA in downtown and have not been pleased with their work or attitude. Would you recommend Power Volvo for repairs bigger than oil changes and brakes?
V50_T5: I was actually hoping for a C30 T5. That's interesting that your dealer has Heico Volvo's. The S80 V8 on the autobahn sounds like a nice combo.
