Hey, long time lurker here...lots of great info on this site.
Anyway, I'm looking to trade in a 2001 S60 2.4T. Here's some specs:
62,000 miles
Blue exterior, beige interior
All the standard equipment plus:
headlight cleaners
power moonroof
power front seats
heated seats
wood trim
leather
leather steer wheel
AM/FM/CASS/CD/CD changer
stability control
Overall, clean condition. A couple of dings and stratches, but nothing out of the norm for this age car. It cleans up nice.
So far the highest quote I've had on trade in 10,000...which seems low compared to info I gathered online:
kbb - 11,715 (for good condition)
edmunds - 12,950
nada - 14,200
Are they trying to shaft me, or is 10K the going rate for trade??
Thanks!

$10,000 is very good i think consider the year of the car. I saw one person here who had $8000 trade in value for a T5 5 speed.
trade in: Trade-in value represents what you might expect to receive from a dealer for this consumer owned vehicle. Keep in mind that the dealer must then absorb the cost of making the vehicle ready for sale, advertising, sales commissions, arranging financing and insurance and standing behind the vehicle for any mechanical or safety problems.

I realize what trade in means. I also know they can turn around and sell this thing for 14-15K easy. I don't see how Kbb trade in value would be unreasonable.

each value is different, i dont know why. Also it depends a lot the price on your zip code location.
and what do you want to get?

I ran a ballpark estimate on edmunds and it looks like your number may be closer to the "private party" value versus the trade in value (I used the average condition versus clean). You might want to recheck your numbers.

Ok....retried Edmunds as average. Still came out to 11,338 for trade. ...which is right near the middle of the range I'm looking to get (11-11.5K).

Re: (JRL)

"... 9K TOPS"
I was offered 10K already. They were using the Galves...which I had never heard of. I understand they use it b/c it ends up being a good deal for them, but the guide doesn't even take into account options on the car. According to it, all S60 2.4T's were the same value...leather, no leather, CD changer, no CD changer, etc.
I realize the dealer has a right to make money, but I've never had a trade in that didn't come reasonably close to what I was expecting after doing research.

They obviously have a wholesaler that will pay them 10 or 10,200 for it.
You're not going to get any more for it, that is a very strong price

I'm sure it can be frustrating from the dealer's point of view to balance profit and give the customer a fair deal at the same time....of course from the consumer's perspective, we gotta milk it for everything we can!
