i dont know if youve seen this video, but yesterday at press event for the demonstration of volvo's safety technology a brand new s60 crashed right into a truck in front of all the journalists!
Still no explanation from volvo!
This really reduces my confidence in the system,I was really looking forward to purchasing it,reconsiderinng now

Yes, they had to make a fast charge just before the run. The infocenter warned that someting was wrong. But the crash test dummy didn't learn to read in school! ;)

It's like the airbag. If there is a chance that there is someting wrong with the electric systems, the car will turn them off. Because if it doesn't work 100% right, it could be a disaster.
I just hope this is true and it is indeed due to human error:rolleyes:

Noticed that the airbags did not deploy, I guess they would have if nothing was wrong with the car eh??!

Anyhow, volvo should immediately make a statement as they are becoming the laughing stock of the town, and arrange another demonstration soon with a properly prepared car!

The airbags didn't go off because in a 35km/h accident they don't necessarily need to. It all depends on the forces of the accident and the rate of deceleration. I see that many news articles claim the S60 was going 35 or 30MPH, but it was actually going a little over 20 MPH.
Normally it would certainly go off at 35kmph!

Earlier this summer, I personally saw the new S60 drive right through the test dummy at Boston Volvo while testing the City Safety feature. The dummy was placed in front of a group of spectators (us). The demonstrators told us the reason it failed was because there were too many human bodies in the range of the City Safety radar, so it couldn't detect the dummy directly in front of the car. When they flipped the direction of the demo, it worked fine though.
Isnt the brain of the system supposed to identify who it should detect and brake for?!
So I suppose this means that if you are driving through a congested pedestrian area and one of them steps in the path of the car, you will probably hit him!!

Volvo should rework on the software to make it more reliable, I had higher hopes for this system, its very unlikely that I will buy this system for all that money!
