Re: Eyelids. (Jonsi Jonsi S40)

I made my own out of Oracal Vinyl. I can't remember the specific model but just go to Oracal's website and look for one that has good outdoor life. Mine should last 5-8 years, if not it is a breeze to remake them. The hardest part for me was deciding on the shape I wanted, but once that was done it was cake. I applied it wet (sprayed with a little soapy water) so that I could move it around to the position I wanted it, then let it dry. Squeegee out any bubbles or extra water before you let it dry though. It might take a couple tries to get it right but it is worth it. I like it more than any plastic eyelid kit because it is flush with the headlight and body, no sticking out. Being a black car it was super easy to get the right color, but Oracal has a huge color selection to choose from so I'd assume there is one that would be a close match for almost any of Volvo's colors. The vinyl is also fairly inexpensive, it was like $15 for 3 yards, and I have plenty left over for any future projects. I also used the vinyl to cover up the sides of the tails...
Edit: If you prefer the plastic ones they are sold on ebay every now and then for around $30. I've seen a few sets. Just be sure you are buying the right ones, as there are some for the older style S40/V40 as well.
Here is a pic of the front of my car showing the eyelids:

That is also a good idea, but if you ever end up wanting to change the eyelids all you have to do is peel off the vinyl. I've done it on the tails when I tinted them. The vinyl is NOT reusable, but you should have plenty extra if you get at least 1 yard of it. That way you can mix it up and get creative on the eyelid/taillight design and not have it permanent. The vinyl really is not hard to do at all, just be patient and it should work out, and if you mess up it doesn't ruin the lights.

I have a set of eyelids from the MS design. I tried 2 different types of double sided tape and the edges still manage to come off. I'm searching for another adhesive to attach them on more firmly. I got them painted as well from the local body shop with my other interior parts for a very good price.

Yes they are Ms Design ones. You can purchase them on ebay from goingfast. They are the cheapest on ebay as well
. When I have time on the weekends I will try using 3m heavy mounting tape to put these suckers on. These eyelids have trouble staying on at the ends where the orange markers are.

For the adhesive vinyl you get it wet on the adhesive and the top and use a squeegee to pull out the bubbles. Really easy if you do it this way, if you try to do it dry it will be pretty hard to get it right.

This is the exact same way as putting tint on the car windows.

Yeah, I could try to figure out a way to get you the measurements of mine. They aren't a straight line but they are curved because of the shape of the light.
