I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is possible to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets on the T5 without unbolting the turbo from the manifold. Ie just remove the manifold nuts, turbo outlet pipe, and oil drain and move the manifold back far enough to get the gaskets off/on. Is this possible?

Like Justin said, you won't be saving yourself anytime. In fact, you'll just be making life harder on yourself.

Also, use OEM gaskets. The aftermarket gaskets SUCK.

Thanks. I did the gasket replacement (removing the turbo) using Volvo parts.

Can't figure out why the manifold studs backed out of the block.

And the manifold casting was full of cracks.

I thought Volvo knew how to design turbocharged engines....

they either back out of the block or the nuts pop off not a big deal .

and all exhuast manis crack after 10+ years of heating and cooling constantly

Maybe I should go find a Toyota forum to see if they are talking about exhaust manifolds coming loose and cracking at 60,000 mi.

Maybe you should.

I replaced the exhaust manifold on my 99 tercel in 2003 because it was cracked. And it was not even a turbo engine. Just a lowly 4 banger.
