Re: Evolve Engine Mount Bushing - Blue vs. Black? (Cicada)

With your GT go with the black. The blue vibrates too much when cold.

I like the Yellow Powerflex, especially the price, only $29.85

Powerflex also sells the small engine mount, $26.70

http://www.partsforvolvosonlin...5_390
Evolve charges $49 for the large, and doesn't offer the small

What's the difference between the small and large bushing? And how does it increase tire life (according to their claims)?

Re: Evolve Engine Mount Bushing - Blue vs. Black? (pie_ya)
This is too funny...I was going to post something very similar today.
My question is .... as a GT owner, I know that I need to go with the Black bushing.
1) Is there an equivilant powerflex?
2) If I go with the black upper mount bushing, what will happen if I do the strut bar bushing swap as well, ala VizWiz did last week? Do any GT owners have experience with this? Would it be too harsh of an idle vibration?
I have searched on this, but it seemed like most of the responses / discussion was regarding MT's. The only GT responses were "get the black bushing".

Re: Evolve Engine Mount Bushing - Blue vs. Black? (needsdecaf)

I have the blue upper engine mount bushing, ipd strut tensioner bushings, and the VST strut bar all on my car. Very livable in everyday driving but blue bushing does have vibration when cold. If this is a concern get the black bushing. Car feels very tight and steering response is now spot on much like a CTS-V where when you turn the wheel the tires grab right then. Mine now does the same. Hope this helps.

Thanks Kelly!! How does your setup feel? Any vibrations? I am assuming you have all three.
I'd like to get a few things together before my 15K service

I don't have small engine mount, mostly because I didn't know it was there. Not sure if I will add it or not (kind of just spent $$$$ on car), and if something isn't broke....
I don't have any bad vibration except for my heat shield that isn't connected to DP anymore. Not rattling against anything, just vibrating. Very noticeable after I added strut tower brace bushings, so they are doing something.
Steering feel is awesome, but hard to tell how much is strut tower bushings, most is probably TME springs.

Re: Evolve Engine Mount Bushing - Blue vs. Black? ("R" Kelly)

I've got a GT in my R. Along with VST brace, powerflex bushings in ends of bar and have swapped back and forth all three (blue, black and stock) engine mount bushings.
The blue is just too stiff to be used in a GT as it transmits engine noise and vibration way too much when engine is cold and still too much when it's warmed up.
The black does make a notable difference over the stock and I believe it's about the right amount of trade off in vibration.
This smaller engine mount bushing I haven't tried yet but I'm guessing it's advantage will most likely only be seen with the MT.
If you have a blue bushing and want to experiment, you could drill a few holes through the bushing to give it a bit more flex. But then you are running the risk of the bushing cracking between holes. So you might as well just go the black route to start with.
My only objection to the yellow powerflex bushing is, It's color.

It's not the $ it's that time to take them off and put them back on. Who has that kind of time?
I wonder if I called Evolve and Powerflex if they'd have the durometer readings for their bushings? That might give something to go by.
Looks like I'll be getting some new bushings soon! Thanks for your help guys and please, keep chiming in you GT owners!

Yellow is soft, Purple is hard, You can get the large bushing from powerflex in Purple also.
Make sure to clear the original bushing from all rubber instead of removing the whole bushing including it's housing else the Powerflex bushings are to small for the hole in the alloy engine mount.

Swapping out the Evolve bushing should be pretty easy as it just slips in and is tightened down by a nut and bolt.

I've got the strut, both upper mounts and the lower small installed. The feel is great!!!
I had, for a short while, only the Evolve blue, and things rattled when starting and stopping the engine.... By adding the other bushings it not only tightened things up in the feedback and handling department, but now there is little engine slop when starting and stopping and the car feels the best it ever has!
The smaller upper bush has to be pressed out because there is now way anyone will be able to beat it, smack it or hammer it out by any means.
The lower small was a bit of a challenge as well because there is no metal sleeve to work with. It seemed like the outer rubber of the bushing was glued to the mount/housing.... But I eventually got it out by seperating the inner from outer rubber areas.
KVB
