So I had a CEL a couple days ago. I hooked up my phone and pulled a P0456 code for evap system leak. I know this can be related to a loose gas cap, so I checked the cap... it seemed in place. I then cleared the code to see if it would return.
I checked after a few drives the last couple days and didn't see the code return. But after a long drive tonight (and stopping at the gas station for a fill-up somewhere along the way), I hooked up my phone and got back a "pending code" for the same P0456 code. So again, i checked the gas cap... but it seemed in place.
So, where else should I be looking? The hoses to the K&N intake pipe and the evap air filter (?) are all tightly in place and are in good condition from what I can see.
Anybody have a similar issue?
(BTW, I live in oregon and by law I can't pump my own gas so i can't be 100% sure that the cap was put on okay... but I doubt 2 different attendants at 2 different times would have plced the gas cap too loosely.)

Re: Evap system leak... P0456 code? (fletcher33)

Dunno what the code was, but i had intermittent issues with my check engine light coming on. Turned out it was the gas cap, and a software bug. Replaced the gas cap, updated software and all is good.
I wonder if the receipt shows what the codes was hmm...

If its an Evap system small leak detected code then you may require an ECM SW upgrade. Some cars are covered under the EMS extended warranty in which this download would be free of charge.
Otherwise may be a slightly loose gas cap but doubt it, hard to screw those things on crooked... for some on the other hand lol
