Re: Eurosport Tuning joins the intake club... (juve021)
Interesting. Looks very similar to the design that I was going to do (and still might)... It is NOT another version of the Evolve AMS / IPD iteration of the Evolve AMS.
From what I can tell, this 'airbox' does not seal to the hood and acts very much like a factory airbox with an upgraded reusable filter and open top.
So how exactly does this intake differ from the factory one...aside from a bigger box? ***I'm making a huge fart noise with my mouth right now...in disgust.**
so the air just get sucked into that 4inch by 2 inch inlet DIRECTLY to the filter?
doesnt look like much room or air flow. im lost, i guess maybe if it seals right it could prevent the hot air from engine bay but your not getting more air flow are you?
if you look at the IPD or EVOLVE you can see the air flows around and thru the whole filter, this looks like it goes directly into the side of it.

Oh, $300 is def still wayyy too much. Products for the R, regardless of where from, are anal-lubelessly overpriced. Can anybody point to products for the R that are actually worth what they cost. Apart from the HD TCV, i cant think of any. $400 for a plastic box, $1200 for sw tuning, $1000 for a dp. Its all so ridiculous. Its not like anything out there even has a performance payoff either. I can spend $5g, and only get 60hp. So pathetic. http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif

DANGER, Will Rodgers - DANGER!!!
I totally agree - you're getting perhaps 36 degrees of the total 360 degrees of air intake throughout the filter AREA - lets say 10% of total filter area because it is wedged into the intake itself - all that other area for the filter is completely wasted! VERY bad design, IMO, and possibly a danger to your engine!!!

Re: Eurosport Tuning joins the intake club... (o2k)
if it cost $0.30 i wouldnt put it on my car.
reminds me of the frigging $350 plastic grille i bought from EST that fell apart within a few months. had to add pounds of silicone to make the mesh stick to the trim.

Actually I just picked this up for my R as I bought a package from EST -- smokin customer service btw!!
How exactly is this "dangerous"
If the air being pushed into the filter is being forced into the filter it would counteract having fewer overall degrees wouldn't it? making it more of a "ram air" -- Additionally the rest of the filter is still sucking air as well.
Well, the intake getting "cold" air is no larger than the stock design but more limiting since it is only feeding air to a small portion of the filter leaving the rest to suck hot air in from the engine compartment. Sure, there is a ram effect in the short term, but once plugged the rest of the filter will be sucking most of the air in from the hot engine compartment. So far I have not seen many "CAI" setups that actually deliver. You're better off with the stock box and Kelly's fog light grill intake, that actually does what it advertises since the stock box is still sealed and not sucking hot air in from the engine compartment.
Glad to see all you internet automotive engineers are chiming in -- Although fluid dynamics is a little more complicated than just looking at a picture and having an opinion

I've seen plenty of them in person. None yet seal that well. That's why the snazzy kits for the M3s are a closed box...
I'll have you know I am not an IAE (Internet Automotive Engineer), but a duly appointed member of the Volvo God Committee.

Offer and demand. Most of Earth's inhabitants can't believe we're trying to tune a Volvo. I'm glad there's an assortment of products out there, competition is a healthy thing.
Try and shop for performance upgrades for a 911 Turbo / Ferrari 360 and come back to tell us how much bang you're getting for that Tubi exhaust buck. Offer and demand.
... I do believe this is no better for performance than the Kelly setup with a good filter. That's what I'm running and I think it's optimal. There's certainly improvements to be had in the looks / bling departments, for people who show their cars or go to meets a lot it's an undeniable attraction to have a funky intake setup.
My wife's high performance setup involves running shoes but my-oh-my does she look fine in sky high strappy high heels; who cares if she can't run in them.
