Software was released in March, according to Volvo, but the dealers didn't see it until April. They are downloading it on all cars automatically when the cars come in. Haven't had my download yet, so don't know the impact.

Your dealer's supposed to do it automatically, it's a recall and (obviously) free.
If they did do it you should have noticed your car was running better. If not, ask them why they didn't do the RECALL which they're supposed to do

JRL:
You mentioned 99-01 turbos & some 02 non-turbos...
I experienced the common ETM headaches with my 99 non turbo & dropped some serious cash to replace it (I believe twice in the car's lifetime). I recently mailed in my request for a refund (received no letter, printed one from a previous post/link).
Is my car excluded from this recall? Will my request for reimbursement likey be denied?
(The dealer receipts I have clearly indicate the problems were ETM related.)

Thanks for any info...

Thanks for the info....
It's been about 6 weeks since I mailed my request in, so hopefully in another few weeks I'll be seeing something from Volvo.

Re: (Taleof2Bricks2)

It was taking about 8 weeks 3 months ago.
Unless they sped up the process, wait 2 more weeks, then send them a letter asking where the check is.

Re: (JRL)

BSR updated my PPC for this ETM software version. The throttle mapping is the same now. Before the BSR map was much quicker that the stock. (I am talking about hte throttle response, not how fast the car is).
I would not know if the new map is much better than before, the only thing I got from this is a horrible idle, the car almost stalls when shifting from D to P. Maybe I need ETM cleaning, there was a hint of hesitation around idle before.
As aside: after reflashing the BSR software this time, the engine mapping was all over the place, the car idled like a Trabant for a few seconds.

Re: (Mika)

How would you not know? If you had the updated software installed you must have at least driven it home before you reinstalled the BSR.
BTW, I think you were hosed. I'm not aware of ANY aftermarket ECU tuner that has an upgrade yet to go over the new ETM (ECU) upgrade and as I said, in STOCK form the throttle response is MUCH better (quicker and smoother) than before

Re: ETM software, convinced now that it is VERY GOOD (JRL)

I recently registered on this forum and noticed some of your posts, it seems you have been dealing with volvos for a while!
I am looking for an 850R Wagon...any sugestions where to look for one?
Is there a significant difference in performance between the 850glt and the 850R, from the specs/reviews I have noticed that you get an extra 20hp for the 850R and the other extras as rims etc.
Even though I do enjoy fast cars I do not drive crazy in terms of high speeds, I do enjoy some good pick up to get me out of situations such as merging etc.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Nick.

Or maybe not. There's a difference, I am saying that I would not know if it's for better or worse, is all. Maybe there's better pickup, but that's offset by the crappy idle.

Quote, originally posted by JRL »

BTW, I think you were hosed. I uploaded the new software from the car into PPC, sent it to BSR, and they sent it back to me after a few days. What BSR does when read-car occurs, they update their engine mappings over the stock flash file. Now the idle and the throttle map feel exactly the same as after campaign 155 load, so I am fairly sure they (BSR) did not overwrite (all of) it. There are other more significant changes in campaign 155 than the throttle map, those are related to how the throttle position measurement data is used in the control loop. This is to prevent stalling. I see no reason why BSR would meddle with throttle feedback loop.
But this is neither here or there, the important thing is that I got my kickass tuning back after Volvo overwrote it. I don't really care how the car behaves in stock condition.
