Hey Guys,
I'm new to Volvo's and this may be an old question, so bear with me and no hard slapping.
I have a 2001 S60 2.4T with 50K miles.
I believe I read that the new ETM has a yellow label. Correct?

Re: ETM Module - New or Old (wrodri54)

That is the consensus. The ETM was replaced on my '01, and it clearly has a yellow label on it.

Doesn't really matter, the yellow tag ETM is the same as the original.
You need to clean out your breather box, the ETM and have the new software installed for longevity

Re: ETM Module - New or Old (JRL)

I don't think the point was whether the replacement ETM was better or not, it isn't. The question was whether or not it had already been replaced. Answer, Yes. Good point about the software, which just became available the first week of April. Even the dealers aren't certain what it does, or doesn't do. I"m suspending judgment on the value of the software, but am going to have it installed soon.

I've had the car for about 3 weeks so not sure when the 1st owner had it replaced. I've never had any software updates on any car so do all dealers charge for software updates/upgrades? and where do I go to find out when new software are available?
Any documented procedures on cleaning the ETM?
If I take it apart and clean it. Will I have any codes to reset?

I would assume it would still be covered by the extended warranty.
Am I correct?

I think you answered back to the wrong message.
I was talking about warranty on a replaced ETM.
If the new ETM goes out, would it still be covered by the extended warranty (10 years/200K miles)?

You guys do know that the ETM was finally recalled by volvo and if you paid out of pocket to get it replaced, you will get a $900 check back from Volvo. Mine was still under warranty when it was replaced. But the dealership just recently updated the software for it.

Re: (T5Killa)

Yes, it is now being replaced, but the dealer first has to clean the ETM, because the codes are the same, and Volvo won't authorize a replacement without first trying the least expensive alternative. Dealer tells me they are tired of cleaning the ETM and then having the car come back the following week with the same problem, only to replace the ETM which should have been done initially!

10 years, 200,000 miles regardless of how many owners.
Yes, they clean out first and apply the new software.
My service manager (who does not lie) has told me that cleaning and software fixes over 75% of them (at least for a while)

Re: ETM Module - New or Old (JRL)

My car has the yellow MM label on the ETM so I went back and checked the carfax report on it and the only service reported on the carfax report was done on 10/08/04. I wonder if this was when the ETM was replaced. The description on says "Vehicle Service". Would the dealership or volvo have a record on when it was replaced?
